MLB World Series Game 3 Picks: Dodgers vs. Yankees (Monday)

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a statement in their two home games to open the World Series, putting the New York Yankees under immense pressure to win Game 3 and avoid a daunting 3-0 deficit. The Dodgers are now -425 favourites to win the series, and MLB’s Sarah Langs highlighted how often teams that win the first two games go on to claim the championship.

Odds, Picks & Predictions: World Series Game 3

      Los Angeles Dodgers (+120) at New York Yankees (-142) | O/U 8.5 (-112/-108

The Dodgers have only been underdogs once this postseason when they beat the Padres as +119 underdogs 8-0 in Game 4 of the Division Series. However, New York is 3-1 at home this postseason averaging nearly five runs per game, and I expect it to make this a competitive series given that it won an MLB-best 55 games against teams over .500 this season.

Outside of one terrible inning where he allowed six runs against the Padres, Walker Buehler has held opponents scoreless in the other eight innings this postseason. However, he is also coming off his worst regular season, where he allowed his highest xBA (.226) and xERA (4.68) of his career and his worst wOBA (.370) and barrel percentage (6.9%) since his rookie year in 2017.

And while Aaron Judge’s postseason struggles have been amplified with every hitless at-bat, his struggles are offset by Shohei Ohtani’s shoulder injury that he suffered while stealing second base late in Game 2. Ohtani has been cleared to play, but I do not expect him to be 100%, which considerably lowers L.A.’s offensive ceiling.

The Yankees held the Dodgers to four runs in a losing effort in Game 2, but they did snap L.A.’s five-game postseason streak of scoring six or more runs, which was an MLB postseason record. That should give New York confidence, and I expect it to come up with the biggest win of its season with its backs against the wall.

      The Pick: Yankees Moneyline (-142)
