World Series Game 2 No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Texas Rangers

Merrill Kelly vs. Jordan Montgomery

What a start to the 2023 World Series. In my opinion, Game 1 went above and beyond expectations and gave us an entertaining game from start to finish, including one of the most exciting plays in baseball, a walk-off HR.

On to Game 2.

Game 2 will feature a pitching matchup between Merrill Kelly (2-1, 2.65) and Jordan Montgomery (3-0, 2.16).

It will be interesting to see how the Diamondbacks respond after leading most of Game 1, amd ultimately losing in extra innings. This team is one of the youngest teams in baseball and had minimal playoff experience. If they want to stay in this series, they can’t dwell on last night’s loss and start focusing on tonight’s games.

Merrill Kelly has been brilliant for Arizona in his three postseason games. He is 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA. In his three appearances, he has only allowed 2 or more earned runs once. Kelly will need to duplicate another great outing to keep his team in.

As for the Rangers, they are riding high with all the momentum on their side. And they have arguably their best pitcher on the mound for Game 2.

Jordan Montgomery has been terrific in the postseason. In his five appearances, he is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA. Like Kelly, he has only allowed 2 or more earned runs once.

I expect the offenses on both teams to start slow in Game 2, especially after a later night than expected. This should be a perfect spot for the NRFI.

NRFI -110
