World Series Game 5 No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks

Nathan Eovaldi vs. Zac Gallen

The Texas Rangers are one win away from their first World Series Championship in franchise history.

They are sending out the veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi in hopes he can shut the door on this pesky Arizona offense.

Eovaldi is a perfect 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA this postseason and will make his second start of the World Series tonight.

In his first start of the series, the Diamondbacks roughed him up, scoring five runs on six hits, accounting for his worst start of the 2023 playoffs.

For most of game 4, it looked as if the D’backs were throwing in the white flag; they looked flat and couldn’t get anything going. Then something must have flipped because after being down 11-1, they decided to show they weren’t going down easily by scoring six unanswered runs and made it somewhat interesting before ultimately losing 11-7.

They still showed some fight, and I think they will ultimately show they aren’t finished yet in game 5.

Zac Gallen will look to help extend the series as he makes his second start in the World Series. Gallen is 2-2 with a 5.27 ERA in the 2023 postseason and is looking to right the ship, as his first postseason journey hasn’t been the greatest.

Despite looking like the front-runner for the N.L. Cy Young Award for the regular season, he has been beat up in the playoffs. In all five of his starts, he has allowed two or more earned runs, and in three of those, he has allowed three or more earned runs.

In his last start against Texas, he went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits while allowing a season-high four walks.

Tonight is when the nerves start to set in; knowing it’s an elimination game, I think both pitchers start off a little shaky.

I think the offenses come out hot and take advantage of some nervousness of the starting pitchers. Take the YRFI.

YRFI -115
