Monday Night Football Picks & Predictions: Rams vs. Packers (Week 15)

Week 15 comes to a close with a Monday Night Football matchup between the Green Bay Packers (5-8) and Los Angeles Rams (4-9) at Lambeau Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN), with the standard multicasts happening at ESPN’s family of networks.

With essentially nothing to play for from either side, let’s take a closer look at how this one might play out.

Monday Night Football Picks & Predictions: Rams vs. Packers (Week 15)

Details

  • Opening Line: Packers -7.5 | O/U 39.5
  • Current Line: Packers -6.5 | O/U 39.5
  • Last meeting: Nov. 28, 2021 – Rams 28, Packers 36

Overview

A dramatic victory over the Las Vegas Raiders (17-16) on Thursday Night Football allowed the Rams to end their six-game losing streak. In the final seconds of his first game with the Rams, QB Baker Mayfield directed a 98-yard game-winning drive to seal the victory.

Los Angeles has been without its starting quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Cooper Kupp for the majority of the season. Still, Mayfield gave the team a boost with a victory two days after being claimed off waivers.

The Packers entered Week 14 with plenty of rest because they had a bye week. In Week 13, Green Bay defeated the Chicago Bears 28-19 to end a two-game slide. After opening the year 3-1, it has dropped to third place in the NFC North, behind the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, after losing seven of its past nine games.

Bottom Line

For the first time in weeks, these Rams showed a real spark with Mayfield behind center, and now the former Browns/Panthers quarterback has a full week to prepare. While I don’t expect him to be turning in MVP-level seasons here if Stafford is really done, head coach Sean McVay, I do believe, can turn Mayfield’s career around with an offense designed around him.

For the Packers, Rodgers has said he’d play until they were eliminated, but you have to think he sees the writing on the wall. Rodgers’s passing attack has now lost the yardage battle in three of their past four games, beating only the Bears in regulation since September.

Now, Rodgers faces the #5 passing defense in the league, allowing just 192.9 yards per game through the air. They’ll also come into this one hungry, specifically, DB Jalen Ramsey, who was exposed time and time again last week vs. DeVante Adams.

I like for the Rams’ to have enough in the tank to keep this one well within the posted number.

Pick: Rams +6.5
