Monday Night Football Preview & Predictions: Bills vs. Jets

Monday Night Football is back again this week with a matchup of the top teams in the AFC East. The Bills are fresh off of back-to-back losses and will be traveling to the Meadowlands to take on a Jets team also fresh off of back-to-back losses. Something has to give here as both teams are desperate to get back on track. This game will have a significant impact on how the AFC East shapes out going forward. Let's take a closer look at this important matchup.

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Betting Preview

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

The Bills got off to a roaring start this season with a clean 3-0 sheet. They outscored their opponents 112-48 in the process. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say because those three opponents have combined to go 5-12 through Week 6. All were bottom third of the league in DVOA headed into Week 6. So it was no surprise when this momentum hit a massive speed bump with losses to the Ravens and Texans on the road the last two weeks. They find themselves on the road yet again for a third consecutive time this week.

The Jets had quite the eventful week themselves. After being embarrassed in London against the Vikings, head coach Robert Saleh was fired. Additionally, offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett was relieved of his play-calling duties. At 2-3, with wins over only New England and Tennessee, both bottom-third teams per DVOA themselves, the problems with the Jets may run a bit deeper than the coaching staff.

The Jets' defense has stacked up pretty well this season despite their record. However, this will be the biggest test they've faced since San Francisco in Week 1, where they allowed 32 points and over 400 yards of offense. For Buffalo, the biggest matchup is their run defense against the New York run offense. The Jets rank 31st, nearly dead last in rushing offense DVOA. If they can't get the run game going they'll have to rely on Aaron Rodgers, who has been inconsistent, at best, this season.

New York has taken some money this week and the line has continued to move in their direction, but the market has overcorrected. Buffalo has beaten bad teams this season and there is reason to believe that this New York team is bad. Although Saleh is out of the picture, the coaches making the calls were in the room before last week. I don't expect much to change going forward. This is a great buy-low spot for the Bills.

Pick: Buffalo -1 (-110)
