Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

To the surprise of many, both of these teams will be looking to start 3-0 on the season. For Tampa Bay, Baker Mayfield has found some of the old mojo he had early on in Cleveland. The stable of All-Pro receivers has Mayfield looking more than capable than most had expected. Going up against a banged-up Philadelphia secondary could be just what the doctor ordered to keep the Tampa train going.

The Eagles got off to hot starts both at New England in Week 1 and hosting the Vikings in Week 2. The offense fell to screeching halts in both cases, and the scores ended up a lot closer. Per DVOA, Tampa rates near identical in offense to both Minnesota and New England this year, but it’s their seventh-ranked DVOA defense that could give QB Jalen Hurts and the offense fits. Hurts hasn’t look like the MVP candidate he was last year. Through two games, he has managed just 363 yards and two TDs in the air. Additionally, he’s taken seven sacks. Going up against this Tampa front seven could have Hurts scrambling out of the pocket all game.

The post-NFC Title hangover has been real for Philadelphia. They’ve been fortunate to come away 2-0 early in the season. On the road against a Tampa team that has shown that they’re better than preseason expectations has me looking at Tampa in this game.

Bet: Buccaneers +5.0 (-112)

Arizona Diamondbacks @ New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have been abysmal against right-handed pitching this year, with a sub-.500 record (63-64) in games started by righties. They rank 25th in wRC+, 27th in wOBA and are batting a collective .221 in that split, which is better than only the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees survive primarily on home runs, but the Arizona Diamondbacks’ righty, Merrill Kelly, has done a great job keeping the ball in the yard of late, allowing just two home runs in his previous 36 ⅓ innings.

The Diamondbacks are one of six NL teams over .500 on the road this season. Additionally, we do not expect the Yankees’ righty Clarke Schmidt to have much left in the tank in his last two starts. He has thrown 151 innings this year after a previous career-high of 57 ⅔. These moneyline odds are relatively low given the respect oddsmakers have for Schmidt’s 25 appearances allowing three or fewer earned runs. Still, the Diamondbacks have much more to play for. With just a 1.5-game lead for a wild card spot, we expect them to play this series finale with urgency.

Bet: Diamondbacks Moneyline (-135)
