Top NBA Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: January 7, 2023
New Orleans Pelicans at Dallas Mavericks (-7 | O/U 225.5)
This is an egregious number for the Mavericks. I understand that the depleted Pelicans will be playing the second leg of a back-to-back, but that is not reason enough to hesitate in betting them in this spot.
Dallas has been an awful bet this season, and this is not the time nor place to back them. On the year, Dallas is:
- 14-24-1 ATS
- 8-12-1 ATS at Home
- 10-20 ATS as a Favorite
Dallas may be fortunate to be catching the Pelicans without the likes of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, but the advantage which New Orleans’ has depth-wise cannot be understated. Per 538’s RAPTOR Ratings, Dallas only has three positively graded players available in their rotation. Such a lack of depth was evident this past Thursday. Conversely, the Pelicans’ bench is among the best in the NBA and should keep them within striking distance.
New Orleans will have the advantage when Luka Doncic is off the court, and may be able to win this game outright if the Mavericks shooters don’t comply. Trust the Pelicans depth, and trust the number– even on the tail-end of a back-to-back.
Bet: Pelicans +7 (-110)
Orlando Magic at Golden State Warriors (-6.5 | O/U 232)
The Warriors most recent loss was frustrating but likely just an anomaly. No team has been better than Golden State at home (17-3 SU, 14-5-1 ATS), and we like their prospects against the Magic.
Orlando grades out as 26th in Adjusted Net Rating per dunksandthrees.com, and they’ve been tested on the road sparingly these past two months. Golden State anticipates the return of both Andrew Wiggins and Andre Iguodala to the rotation. Such added depth may be too much for this young Magic team to endure.
Golden State doesn’t often lose at home, and it is even more infrequent they lose consecutive games. Bet on the veteran Warriors to regain their rhythm Saturday night.
