NBA Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (11/6)

Sunday presents only four games on the NBA slate. Here are some best bets that I’m targeting on the board.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers

The Sunday matinee matchup between the Cavaliers and Lakers will pit Cleveland’s 2nd-rated defense against the Lakers’ 29th-rated offense.

To say the season has been a struggle for the Lakers is an understatement. They rank in the bottom third of the league in eFG%, OReb rate, and FT rate. This has been a recipe for failure, and the record shows that.

Meanwhile, Cleveland has gotten off to a blazing start to the season. Their defense has been a major reason why. The size of the Cavaliers’ frontcourt is unmatched amongst most teams in the league. With Darius Garland back in the lineup following an injury, the backcourt also looks to excel on both sides of the ball.

The Cavaliers also have dictated a slow pace this season, 28th in the league. They’ve been very efficient on offense. Even though I would lean towards the under, I will go a different route.

With the Lakers’ struggles on offense, going against this Cavalier team, I’m going to target the Lakers’ team total under.

Pick: Lakers Team Total u110.5 (-115)

Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Clippers

Utah traded away a franchise cornerstone and was expected to focus on the draft instead of the playoffs, but someone forgot to tell the Jazz players. They’ve been one of the biggest surprises of the early NBA season, and there’s reason to believe this might be sustainable.

Utah started the season strong, relying on defense and an offense that exceeded expectations. They’ve been solid defensively, holding opponents to a 51.9% eFG%, good for 9th in the league. They’ve also been turning their opponents over at a 16% clip, which is 6th in the league. Offensively, they’ve hounded the offensive boards at the third-best rate.

The Clippers have been on the other side of the coin. They were a team with high hopes coming into the season, but with Kawhi Leonard struggling to stay healthy, they’ve been disappointing. The offense particularly has been disappointing, standing dead last in schedule-adjusted offensive rating.

The books haven’t quite adjusted to preseason expectations on either of these teams yet. With the Clippers’ struggles on offense and the way the Jazz excelled on defense, Utah has an edge here.

Pick: Jazz +3.5 (-110)
