Milwaukee Bucks at Orlando Magic

The Magic have gotten off to a surprising start on the season. They’ll host the Bucks on Saturday in what could be a really fun matchup. Since 2022-23 the Bucks have been one of the best teams at both winning the opening tip and scoring the first basket. The Magic haven’t been bad in those categories, but Milwaukee has excelled. With this information, I’m targeting Milwaukee players for First Basket.

One pick I like is Brook Lopez. Orlando typically struggles in these situations against centers but more importantly, the Magic are missing their center, Wendell Carter Jr. Lopez isn’t a box score stat stuffer but he does have the ability to put up points in the right matchup. This is the right matchup. Lopez is a really solid value play for Saturday.

Another play I like in this game is Damian Lillard. This will be the third game in four nights for an aging Bucks team. Lillard had the day off Thursday so he’ll be fresh for this matchup. Giannis however could be out after he was listed as a game time decision on Thursday. If Giannis is out then the value on Lillard is phenomenal. He’s been excellent offensively in his early results with Milwaukee. He is scoring early and often. If Giannis is out then Dame is a must-play for First Basket, but I love the play regardless.

Picks: Brook Lopez (+800) & Damian Lillard (+700)

Miami Heat at Atlanta Hawks

The Heat travel to Atlanta in what should be a hotly contested Southeast Division matchup. On Thursday night in Mexico City, the Hawks had a huge fourth quarter to overtake the Magic led by some heroics from Dejounte Murray. Let’s see if he can roll that hot hand over to Saturday.

Before Thursday’s outburst by Trae Young, Murray led the Hawks in scoring so he’s still a threat to score any time he has the ball. Miami will also be without Tyler Herro which could mean Duncan Robinson is back in the starting lineup. That will hurt the Miami defense majorly and Murray should be one of the biggest beneficiaries.

Murray also gets the benefit of Trae Young taking so much attention from opposing defenses. Atlanta will look to get the offense going early and Murray will have the best opportunity to score. I love his odds for a First Basket in this matchup.

Pick: Dejounte Murray (+650)
