Houston Rockets @ Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic only scored 37% of first baskets last season. They ultimately have the same lineup as last season. For example, Franz Wagner took 13 first shots but only made four first baskets. The Magic were super inefficient last season when trying to score first. When Orlando got out to a cold start, they typically lost a bunch of games and underachieved last season.

On the other hand, the Rockets earned 56% of tips and took the first shot 56% of the time last year. They also hit 50% of first baskets.

The Rockets have a completely different-looking team with Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks. VanVleet had nine first baskets but only took five first shots last year with the Raptors. Meanwhile, Dillon Brooks took 10 first shots and added 12 first baskets for the Grizzlies. Brooks will try to get on the board early with his new team. Let’s roll with him to get the first basket for the Rockets.

Bet: Dillon Brooks (+1100

Detroit Pistons @ Miami Heat

Detroit won 31% of tips last year. That’s only 25 in 82 games.

Meanwhile, the Heat added 53% of tips won and hit on 53% of first baskets. Miami also took 55% of first shots, while the Pistons only took 42% of first shots.

The Miami Heat might not have Gabe Vincent or Max Strus in the starting lineup anymore. However, the five starters will include Kyle Lowry, Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Love and Bam Adebayo. It’s the usual five for the Heat. Adebayo took nine first shots last season and scored on 14 first baskets. He was featured early in a lot of games for Miami.

Therefore, I’ll take my chances with Adebayo to score first in tonight’s game against the Pistons.

Bet: Bam Adebayo (+500)
