Dallas Mavericks (-450) at Utah Jazz (+350) | O/U 232 (-110/-110)
With just a standalone game on Thursday, weâll go at this game a little more in-depth than if we had several games on the slate.
The Mavericks (5-6) wrap up a three-game road trip at Delta Center against the skidding Jazz (2-8), who have lost all five home games so far this season. Thank goodness for the Utah Hockey Club, am I right, Salt Lake City?
The Mavs are winless on the current road trip while dropping each of the past three games, but things could easily be much different. Dallas lost 120-117 last time out against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday as a 2.5-point underdog while the Over (234.5) cashed. Dallas lost Sunday, 122-120, against the Denver Nuggets, and the past three games, all losses, have been by a total of six points.
These teams meet for the second time this season, with Dallas posting a 110-102 victory as a 12-point favorite in the Metroplex back on Oct. 28. The Mavs shot 45.3% (43-of-95) from the field while going 28.2% (11-of-39) from behind the 3-point line and hitting at a 76.5% (13-of-17) clip from the free-throw line. Dallas had six players go for 11 or more points, including 23 points for Kyrie Irving, who ended up with nine assists, six rebounds, a steal, a blocked shot, and three triples while going a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Klay Thompson ended up with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
For the Jazz, they hit 37.0% (34-of-92) from the field, while going 28.6% (10-of-35) from downtown, while going 82.8% (24-of-29) from the free-throw stripe. The rebounding was exactly even at 50-50, while both teams turned the ball over 13 times apiece. Dallas was a lot more active on the defensive end, recording 12 blocked shots, while Utah ended up with five swats. Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II ended up with three blocked shots apiece.
Dallas has dropped five of the past seven games, going 2-4-1 against the spread (ATS) in the span, while the Over has cashed in consecutive games for the first time this season. The Under actually has a slight 6-5 edge in the past 11 outings.
Utah has struggled on offense this season, although it has picked up the pace a little lately. The Jazz scored 111 or more points in three of the past four games while allowing 120 or more points in four outings. The Over is 3-2 in the five-game span.
We suggest going with the Jazz catching 9.5 points on their home floor, as they should be able to keep it within single digits. Utah has not only covered as an underdog of 6.5-9.5 points in the past two games, but they have won outright in both of those outings. The Mavericks are 1-4 ATS in the past five games as a single-digit favorite.
In this series, the Under is 4-0 in the past four meetings, including the first meeting this season on Oct. 28, while going 8-2 in the past 10 in the series since April 28, 2022. Letâs go with the Under, too.
In addition, letâs look to Mavericksâ big man Daniel Gafford to grab at least seven rebounds. He had seven boards in the first meeting, and he has seven or more rebounds in three of the past four outings. With the Jazz allowing teams to hit 37.2% from behind the 3-point line, letâs look to Kyrie Irving to get at least three triples. He had three in the first meeting in late October, and he has three or more 3-pointers in six of his 11 games this season.
Picks: Utah Jazz +9.5 (-110), Under 232.5 (-110), Daniel Gafford Over 6.5 Rebounds (-128) & Kyrie Irving Over 2.5 3-Pointers (-102)
