NBA Parlay Odds, Picks & Prediction: Wednesday (10/19)

The NBA kicked off yesterday, but tonight it really gets going with a tantalizing 12-game slate. These big slates provide plenty of opportunities for betting, and it’s my job to help you find the best options. I will write about a parlay I like for the day’s slate each week. Making a parlay bet, while exciting, is incredibly difficult to consistently return a profit with. My general advice is to keep them relatively simple and don’t just go heavy with heavy favorites – that strategy is a big reason for books being so successful in the long run.

Here is my parlay for today’s slate.

All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Leg 1: San Antonio Spurs ML (+100)
  • Leg 2: New Orleans Pelicans ML (+130)
  • Leg 3: Minnesota Timberwolves ML (-520)

This parlay combines two short underdogs with a straightforward “just win” option. Spurs head coach Greg Popovich hasn’t exactly expressed much confidence in his team this off-season, but he is still one of the greatest coaches of all time. The Spurs opened at +122, so the money has only been in their favor to now sit at even odds. It will be rare to bet on San Antonio this season, but I see this as an opportune moment due to their opponent. The Hornets’ off-season was…tough. They were not involved in the free agency frenzy, will begin the year without LaMelo Ball, are without Miles Bridges due to legal troubles, and failed to win a game in their five preseason contests. If there is one team to fade early this season, it’s Charlotte.

If there is a second team to fade early on, it’s the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Durant requested a trade, apparently asked for Steve Nash to be fired, and after everything, chose to return. It was quite the roller coaster of an off-season in Brooklyn. Ben Simmons joins the squad after missing over a year of time while dealing with his back injury and focusing on his mental health. The Nets might get it all together eventually and contend again, but I cannot imagine them hitting the ground running to start. I am in on this New Orleans Pelicans team this year, loving the idea of what CJ McCollum, Zion Williamson, and Brandon Ingram can bring to the table, and I expect them to start the year 1-0.

I am generally anti-adding a “free space” to your parlay bets. In the NFL last week, the Buccaneers’ ML over the Steelers was the most added bet to a parlay, and you saw how that worked out. But this Timberwolves team is being slept on, even after bringing in Rudy Gobert in a blockbuster trade. The frontcourt in Minnesota is deadly, paired with the athletic pieces of D’Angelo Russell and former first-overall pick Anthony Edwards, making this team a potential championship contender. The Oklahoma City Thunder should start their tank early with the loss of Chet Holmgren after suffering a Lisfranc injury, and the Timberwolves will roll in their season opener.

If you would prefer another option besides Timberwolves ML, I’d recommend throwing in Trail Blazers ML (+100). With Mike Brown entering the fray in Sacramento, any team with a new coach will take a bit to come together. There might be a little negative recency bias after Portland finished an abysmal 2-21 last year, but I still see them as the better team here that should win.

Parlay Odds: +448 on DraftKings
