Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat

These division foes played each other close in each game this season, and we expect the matchup to be no different in the play-in tournament. The spread too also feels inflated, as the Heat were favored by exactly -2.5 points in each of the two teams’ previous meetings in Miami. Back Atlanta to keep it close tonight.

The Hawks certainly aren’t known for their defense, and they don’t match up well with Butler on the perimeter. Atlanta’s roster lacks strong wing defenders, and Jimmy B has feasted on this matchup thus far. Expect the Miami star to take matters into his own hands tonight, lighting up the box score along the way.

Young finished the NBA Regular Season second in the NBA in Assists Per Game (10.2), barely edged out by Philly G James Harden (10.7). There is no reason to expect that such output would suddenly stall tonight in Miami. Trae averaged 9.75 APG vs. Miami this season, and the last time we saw him take the floor, he logged 20 assists vs. the 76ers.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers

To the surprise of no one, the total in this game keeps rising. The absences of Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels are devastating for the Timberwolves’ defense, as the two players rate as Minnesota’s best defenders. Additionally, it just so happens that these two are also among the team’s worst offensive players, making an Over result that much more likely. One more note: The Lakers have gone Over the total in eight straight games heading into tonight’s contest.

Minnesota C Karl-Anthony Towns is not known for his defense, nor is he for his physicality. It’s not ideal for the Wolves that they’ll have to rely on Towns to stall Lakers’ big man Anthony Davis, and he is likely incapable of doing so. Davis has been on an absolute tear this season and has been arguably the Lakers’ best player. He single-handedly won the Lakers the game the last time these two teams met, and it would be no surprise if the team leaned on him once again tonight.

Schroder has been a strong contributor for the Lakers in his minutes and averages 17 Points + Assists per Game on the season. For all the Lakers’ talent, Schroder will still find the ball in his hand plenty, and this line seems to ignore that. One last note: Schroder tallied 18 and 17 Points + Assists in Los Angeles’ two matchups with the Wolves this past month.
