NBA Preseason Odds, Picks & Predictions

Check out our top NBA preseason picks and predictions for today’s games.

Pelicans vs. Heat

The New Orleans Pelicans became the preseason with a 106-104 victory over the Magic at home. Zion Williamson got 19 minutes and scored 16 points. Meanwhile, Jordan Hawkins was impressive off the bench, with a team-best 18 points. They'll face a Miami team that is currently 0-1 after a loss to the Hornets. Miami is dealing with many injuries and shot just 42.4% from the field against the Hornets. To be fair, Miami out-shot Charlotte but fouled at a much higher rate, which cost them the game. I'll trust the Pelicans at +1.5 (-125).

Pick: Pelicans +1.5 (-125)

Trail Blazers vs. Kings

Portland and Sacramento have combined to go 0-3 in the preseason. At least one team will get the first win of the preseason tonight. Portland dropped a close one to the Clippers, 101-99. The Trail Blazers only played 11 guys and still couldn't find much rhythm offensively. Scoot Henderson dropped just 13 points in 30 minutes after shooting 4-for-16. This is problematic for the Blazers. Meanwhile, the Kings lost back-to-back games against the Warriors. Sacramento shot above 51% in the first game and was awful in the second game, yet the Kings still lost both games. In Game 1, the Kings couldn't consistently hit threes, which cost them. Then, in the second game against the Warriors, the Kings shot below 39% and still struggled from three. Give me the Under 217.5 (-115).

Pick: Under 217.5 (-115)

Timberwolves vs. Knicks

Just like that, Donte DiVincenzo will make his Madison Square Garden debut after leaving in a trade for Karl-Anrthony Towns. Against the 76ers, DiVincenzo took only seven shots in 24 minutes. I'm not so sure he's comfortable with the Timberwolves yet. But with Towns out of the picture, Naz Reid will be a star for the Timberwolves this year. He's coming off a 19-point performance in just 23 minutes in a win against Philadelphia. The Timberwolves will take their 2-0 record and put it up against the Knicks' 2-0 record in the preseason. New York showed no mercy against the Washington Wizards. Towns and Jalen Brunson scored 48 points combined, but neither played more than 28 minutes. This will be fun, but the Knicks should be able to come out on top at home. Take the Knicks at -2.5 (-115).

Pick: Knicks -2.5 (-115)

Raptors vs. Celtics

The Boston Celtics can't be stopped! After a 139-89 win over the 76ers, the Celtics have added three consecutive preseason wins. While the 76ers sat most of their starts, the Celtics played Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown and took full advantage of Philadelphia’s limitation on starters. Additionally, there were still four players in double-figures on the bench. Boston is still very deep heading into the season. Meanwhile, Boston will face a Toronto squad that fell to Washington 113-95 after getting outplayed by 15 points in the fourth quarter. Toronto could be the worst team in the NBA this season. Give me the Celtics at -1.5 (-115).

Pick: Celtics -1.5 (-115)

Pistons vs. Warriors

Both of these teams have been playing very well during the preseason. Golden State hosts Detroit on Sunday and will put their 3-0 record on the line. Golden State spent the last two games playing the Sacramento Kings and their depth was on display as they came out victorious in both contests. Guys like Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield, and De’Anthony Melton have shined. Detroit has a very young and relatively inexperienced team, and they’ve sprinkled in a few key veterans like Tim Hardaway Jr and Tobias Harris. This preseason has been crucial for Cade Cunningham and the rest of the youngsters to learn how to play with these new pieces. So far it’s gone well. In the last contest, Cunningham was an assist away from a triple-double, and many of the starters played 25-30 minutes. I can’t imagine on the road, with just one day of rest, you’ll see many of these guys get more than a quarter’s worth of minutes. I’ll be backing the talented depth of the Warriors as short favorites at home.

Pick: Warriors -4 (-115)

Suns vs. Nuggets

This will be the first time we’ve seen the Nuggets on American soil this preseason. They’ll host the Suns who just played on Friday night. Phoenix will travel to Denver after losing at home to Detroit in a game where many key starters didn’t play. One who did, Kevin Durant, logged 24 minutes and likely won’t see the same amount of action here with his history of injuries. Denver could have nearly a full lineup who may all see a decent amount of playing time. It has been a whole week since they last played the Celtics in Abu Dhabi and that was a game where the starters rested outside of Jokic and Murray. It’s a tough scheduling spot for the Suns and I’m leaning backing the rested, home favorites in this one.

Pick: Nuggets -5 (-115)
