Check out our top NBA preseason picks and predictions for Tuesdayâs games.
Celtics vs. Raptors
Boston and Toronto will play the second game of a preseason back-to-back on Tuesday in Toronto. The first game ended with a 115-111 Boston win as Toronto needed a massive 42-24 fourth quarter to even make the game respectable. Toronto played a few of their starters like Scottie Barnes and Jakob Poeltl. Meanwhile Boston rolled out an exclusively bench lineup and were led by Lonnie Walker, Jordan Walsh, Payton Pritchard and Drew Peterson. Boston was outshot in the game but the sheer volume of deep balls they attempted was enough to win them the game. Their 53 attempts, although a large amount, was not out of the ordinary for a team that scored 47.1% of their points from beyond the arch last year. This number was good enough to pace the entire NBA. Regardless of whether any of starters get some run here, Boston is the right side. Itâs apparent their style of offensive play is suited well for these preseason games and they have enough shooting up and down the training camp roster that they can score in any situation. This will always make them an attractive preseason play.
Pick: Celtics -6.5 (-110)

Hornets vs. Knicks
Itâs been an emotional week and a half for the Knicks. They made the massive, league-altering trade to bring in Karl Anthony-Towns last week and then finished up this weekend welcoming back Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo with the Timberwolves, where things got a little heated with the latter and a Knicks assistant. Now on Tuesday, they will host the Hornets. This will be the second time these two squads have matched up this preseason. The first was a game in Charlotte that the Knicks won 111-109. The Knicks played many of their starters in that game, but after back-to-back games, where the Knicks played starters for 25-30 minutes, there is a good chance we will see a lighter load for their stars. This should bode well for Charlotte who has looked strong this preseason with a deep bench. If this were a regular season game, I might lean New Yorkâs way, but for the preseason itâs tough to back a huge favorite like this. Thereâs going to be more value on a more rested underdog.
Pick: Hornets +7.5 (-110)

Spurs vs. Heat
The San Antonio Spurs have added back-to-back wins against Orlando and Utah. They've played three games at home this preseason but will finally be on the road tonight against the Heat. San Antonio had Keldon Johnson come off the bench against Utah, scoring 20 points in 23 minutes on 9-for-13 from the field. Johnson could truly become a top-tier 6th man if the Spurs decide to play him off the bench this season. On the flip side, the Miami Heat have played in two very tight games to begin the preseason. Miami defeated the Pelicans last time out, 101-99. Ultimately, Miami didn't shoot the ball very well but still forced 24 turnovers. It's doubtful the Spurs commit that many turnovers, though. Take the Spurs at +2.5 (-105).
Pick: Spurs +2.5 (-105)

Pelicans vs. Rockets
When Dejounte Murray and C.J. McCollum played against the Heat last time out, the New Orleans Pelicans were about -13 in just 21 minutes. That's not very encouraging for the Pelicans. Meanwhile, the Rockets' starting lineup hasn't played tremendously better. Yet, the bench looks way deeper. After all, Houston has Reed Sheppard and Cam Whitmore coming off the bench. Both are terrific scorers who are major threats. In addition, Houston's starting lineup is developing year after year and should take a jump and make the playoffs this season. I'm on Houston at -3.5 (-105).
Pick: Rockets -3.5 (-105)

Thunder vs. Nuggets
Denver fans can't be happy with what they're seeing right now. The Nuggets have lost three consecutive preseason games, including two tight losses and one blowout loss. In the most recent game, the Nuggets used their starting lineup for about 28 minutes against the Suns' backups and still lost 118-114. On the other hand, Oklahoma City added a confidence boost with a 117-89 win over New Zealand last time out. The Thunder are 2-1 in preseason and already have a road win against the Spurs. While Oklahoma City is 1-0 on the road, Denver is 0-2 at home. I'm on the Thunder at -1.5 (-120).
Pick: Thunder -1.5 (-120)

Kings vs. Jazz
The Sacramento Kings lost by 20 to the Portland Trail Blazers despite using its starting lineup for 28-30 minutes. It was so bad that it was leaked that De'Aaron Fox would test free agency and not sign an extension with Sacramento. This could be the team's downfall. Meanwhile, Utah is dealing with a lot of injuries and just lost 126-120 to San Antonio. The Jazz need to limit turnovers better but they're shot-making is on point. Therefore, I'll ride it out with the Utah Jazz at home. The Jazz are 3-1 in preseason and playing another home game, where they're 2-0. Take Utah at +2.5 (-120).
Pick: Jazz +2.5 (-120)

Warriors vs. Lakers
The Warriors will typically have you believing in the team during preseason. They're 4-0 with wins over the Clippers, Kings (2) and Pistons. The most recent win came against the Pistons, where the backups dominated the actual starting five for the Pistons. The offense shot 46% from the field and added 13 more rebounds in the win. They'll take on a Lakers squad that ultimately lacks depth. If Bronny James makes the roster, it's clear that the Lakers don't have much quality. Let's take the Warriors here at -1.5 (-120).
Pick: Warriors -1.5 (-120)
