As we further engage in the Emirates Championship Cup, the Brooklyn Nets will host the Orlando Magic this evening at The Barclays Center. The total suggests this contest will not be a high-scoring affair. However, teams have been scoring as much as possible to increase point differential when it comes to cup-play. Let's not waste any more time and dive right into our SGP for this contest.

Orlando Magic at Brooklyn Nets
- Leg 1: First Quarter Total Points + Under 54.5 (-125)
- Leg 2: Ben Simmons Under 14.5 Rebounds + Assists (-130)
- Leg 3: Ben Simmons Under 6.5 Assists (+105)
- Leg 4: Jalen Suggs Higher 15+ Points (-150)
Scoring has been incentivized for the Emirates Cup, and while it may be beneficial to take the over as much as possible, the Nets could be without most of their starting lineup in this contest. Cam Thomas and Dennis Schroeder have already been ruled out. Dorian Finney-Smith, Nic Claxton, Cam Johnson, Jalen Wilson, and Noah Clowney are all questionable as of Friday morning.
Franz Wagner is not on the injury report; however, the Magicâs top-scoring option did roll his ankle late in Wednesday's game against Chicago. Again, nothing has been reported, yet it's still a situation to monitor before the contest tips off.
If the Nets were not so riddled with injury, the 54.5 total would be a bet that we would favor the over on without much hesitation. Orlando ranks 20th in first-quarter points allowed with 27.4, and their opponent tonight scores the sixth-most points in the first quarter at 29.6. Subsequently, Brooklyn also concedes 29.6 points to the opposition in the first quarter.
The Magic have relied on their defense to string together nine wins over their last ten games. Orlando owns the third-highest defensive rating in the league, and scoring in the first quarter could prove highly difficult for a Nets team that may be rolling out predominantly non-starters tonight.
Ben Simmons should see an increased role this evening, with Dennis Schroder set to miss this contest. In the last five contests, Simmons is averaging 6.0 assists with 5.8 boards while playing at least 26 minutes in 4-of-5 of those games. When the Nets faced Phoenix on Wednesday, the point-forward led the team in rebounds (9) and assists (8) with 17 combined.
Our reservations about the rebound and assist totals for this contest reside within the limited number of boards and dimes that Orlando surrenders on a per-game basis. The Magic currently allow the fewest offensive rebounds, the fourth-lowest total rebounds, and the second-lowest number of assists each contest.
In the last game Dennis Schroeder missed on 11/24, Simmons played 27 minutes and secured three rebounds with five assists. The veteran out of LSU has only cleared 14.5 rebounds + assists on three occasions this season-all three teams rank in the bottom 10 in regard to defensive rating.
As for the assists alone, this is certainly the scariest leg of this parlay, but we are taking our chances for the plus action. Simmons could absolutely get there on a night when the Nets are at full health. However, as stated previously, that will not be the case tonight. It's highly possible that Simmons won't even see the floor in the fourth quarter if this game gets out of hand early.
The suggested increase in usage plays in favor of the Brooklyn forward. Orlandoâs defense, being so efficient, clearly does not. If the Nets are unable to score buckets, it's likely Simmons will fall under 6.5 assists tonight.
Jalen Suggs is currently averaging 15.6 points on the season, and tonight he faces a Brooklyn team that will most likely not have their usual starting unit on the floor for this contest. It's also possible that Franz Wagner may not be at full strength in this contest due to rolling his ankle on Wednesday, so an increased scoring role could be in store for Suggs as well.
Brooklyn allows over 114 points per game on 48.4% shooting from the field and 13.1 three-pointers on 37.1 shooting. Suggs scored 15+ points in 8 of 14 games in November, including the last of 4 of 6 contests.
The Magic guard has made nine three-pointers in the last three games, an average of 18.6 points over that span. Orlando will be playing to secure its position in the Emirates Cup going forward. Suggs will likely have to continue scoring buckets if it is to be successful.
Good luck with your parlays!
