Golden State Warriors @ Philadelphia 76ers

No Joel Embiid changes the dynamic of this game dramatically. The anchor of their defense is gone, leaving the 76ers exposed in the paint. Over their last six games, Philadelphia owns the league’s worst defensive net rating. The Warriors are well aware and took them down last week in a 119-107 win. That was with Embiid on the floor, too.

In that contest, Jonathan Kuminga put up 26 points across 39 minutes on the floor, a common occurrence for the Warriors’ 21-year-old forward as of late. He has forced his way into the starting five and is averaging 24.9 points per game over his last 10 outings. He has found 25 points in six of those 10 matches, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he put that sort of number up in this one once again. If you’re feeling more risk-averse, take him to score 20, a total he has found in nine of his last 10.

No Embiid also means it will be a significantly easier time cleaning up the glass. We have seen Nic Claxton (15 rebounds), John Collins (9), Deandre Ayton (6), Nikola Jokic (16 and 19), Wendell Carter Jr. (11), Alperen Sengun (9), Domantas Sabonis (12) and Onyeka Okongwu (11) all find plenty of boards against them without Embiid. Draymond Green has returned to the starting five over the last five games and is averaging 9.6 rebounds per game across this small sample.

Philadelphia will also be without Nicolas Batum and De’Anthony Melton in this one. Kelly Oubre Jr. has been one of the main benefactors when both Melton and Embiid are absent. In six games without that duo, he’s averaging 20.8 points per game and has scored at least 16 in each of those contests. He should be able to find at least 16 in this one once again.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Washington Wizards

Kyle Kuzma and the Wizards will have their hands full with the Cavaliers coming into town as -11 favorites. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley are back in the rotation for Cleveland, and there’s a decent chance this turns into a blowout, as most Washington games do. The last two times these teams met, Kyle Kuzma finished the game with just 23 and 16 combined points, rebounds, and assists due to its blowout nature. With Evan Mobley back, it’s hard to think he’ll find much success in this one.

With the Cavaliers ranking second in adjusted net rating, it’s fair to assume there will be plenty of bricks being thrown up by the Wizards. If that’s the case, look for Jarrett Allen to be the one cleaning up the glass. Washington has allowed the most rebounds per game to opposing centers by far. Over his last 10 matchups against Daniel Gafford and Washington, Allen has found at least 12 boards in seven games, averaging 12.7 per game.

Lastly, the Darius Garland angle. He’s working his way back to normal minutes, and he had 12 potential assists in 28 minutes in Clevland’s last game against the Kings. When he played 25 minutes, Garland found five assists in 16 of 20 games, averaging six per game. Washington is 27th in adjusted defensive net rating and has allowed the second most assists to opposing point guards.
