Dallas Mavericks @ Golden State Warriors

After playing nearly 800 games for the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson suits up for the Dallas Mavericks for the first time against the organization where he won four championships. After starting the season hot, the road forward hasn't exactly been paved in success in regards to scoring for Thompson. There is a chance this contest is exactly what the veteran needs to sync into form. However, that may just be a false narrative that is connected to a feel-good story.
Thompson has only exceeded 15.5 points in four out of 10 games this season. He is currently averaging only 13.8 points per game. Thompson is also averaging the lowest field-goal attempts since his rookie season (12.2). As for the shooting percentages - 41.8% from the field and 35.4% on three-pointers are the lowest of his career.
Thompson has only cleared 15.5 points in one game over the last seven and is shooting 27.6% from beyond the arc in those contests. A whopping 75% of attempts each game are from distance. To put it bluntly, the shots haven't been falling as they once did.
Beyond the minutes, there hasn't been much in terms of positives throughout the first 10 games of the season. There is no doubt Dallas may look to get Thompson more opportunities to score than in the previous games. Yet, considering the recent shooting woes, it doesn't seem those opportunities will result in 16 points tonight.
Sticking with the Dallas Mavericks, Kyrie Irving is showing some extra gray in the hair. Beyond that, he looks as spry as ever on the floor. With current averages of 25.6 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game, you'd never know the veteran is in season 13 of a phenomenal NBA career.
Irving has exceeded 29.5 points and rebounds in five of his last seven games. In three of those contests, the Dallas guard did not even need any rebounds to clear the total. In November, the superstar out of Duke is averaging 26.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 three-pointers on a combined 55.5% shooting rate.
In the last three games Irving faced the Warriors, he is averaging 25.3 points on 50% shooting from the field with 5.6 rebounds per game. Golden State allows the seventh-most rebounds across the league, so there should be ample opportunities to get a few extra boards tonight.
To close out this parlay, we are going to aim for some low-hanging fruit. Even though a change to the starting lineup on Sunday resulted in increased production for De’Anthony Melton, his consistency this season leaves a lot to be desired.
The Golden State guard has only surpassed 2.5 three-pointers once in five games. He is currently averaging 19.0 minutes on the season. This includes the previously mentioned starting role in the last contest, where he played 27 minutes.
Melton is averaging 38.1% from the field on 8.4 attempts per game - 5.8 of those attempts are made from beyond the arc, where he is connecting on 37.9% of those shots. Dallas allows a mere 12.5 three-pointers each contest on 31.9% shooting.
The last contest looked great for Melton. However, the 2.5 line suggests the Golden State guard will once again play almost 30 minutes, and half of the attempts taken from deep will drop. Given the Mavericks’ penchant for limiting opposing three-point baskets, the inconsistency in playing time for Melton and the volatility of the Warriors’ lineup, we will take the lower end of this total.
Good luck with your parlays.
