Charlotte Hornets at Los Angeles Lakers

Lakers Nation must be optimistic about the team’s potential in the second half of the season. The team currently holds the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference. Adding Luka Doncic will give it a whole new perspective.

Los Angeles has steadily introduced him into the lineup after missing nearly two months with a calf injury. He hasn't played more than 24 minutes in the two games with the team. He could be ready to get more playing time after seven days off.

This also gives the Lakers someone who can bring the ball up and be the top-scoring option or facilitator. This will allow LeBron James to not always have to run the ball up and play off it more. James is also an excellent facilitator, which enhances their ability to move the ball and find mismatches. The loss of Anthony Davis hurts their presence in the frontcourt, but this could make them a faster-paced team and improve their 10th-slowest pace of play (98.7).

The Hornets have the potential to compete any night with the group of talent they have; their problem is they are rarely all healthy. It's been another injury-plagued season for LaMelo Ball, as he's already missed 19 games this season, including seven of his last nine. When he's on the court, he makes Charlotte far better with his +19 expected win differential and +11.7 potential points per 100 possessions differential. He is listed as a game-time decision with an ankle issue that sidelined him in the final game before the All-Star break, but he's expected to play.

The defense has helped Charlotte remain competitive in games, ranking 13th in defensive efficiency (1.109) and defensive rating (113.3). However, it has taken a dip in recent games, ranking 17th in defensive rating in their last 10 games. However, the Hornets have only allowed 109.8 points per game, which is fifth in that span.

This defense and new Lakers lineup did not give them time to build chemistry, so they were slow out of the gate, which could help Charlotte and Ball keep pace. However, the Lakers' overall talent should take over and help them win this game. Also, look for Austin Reaves to play a big part because he’s been the hot hand, going over his combined points + rebounds +  assists props total in four out of his last six games.

Parlay Odds: +578
