Atlanta Hawks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Jalen Johnson has only recorded 13.5 points per game through two games this season. He’s shot just 33.3% from the field and has only hit one three on seven attempts this season. Johnson will go up against a Thunder defense that ranks 10th against small forwards. Meanwhile, Johnson has added at least 18 points in neither of the first two games this season. It’s hard to imagine he’ll hit this number against a quality Thunder defense.

On the other hand, De’Andre Hunter is another small forward who will take on a difficult Thunder defense. Hunter has added at least 17 points in just one of two games this season. Yet, he’s still shot 41.7% from the field. He was just fed eight foul shots in the previous game against Charlotte. Don’t expect many freebees against the Thunder.

Finally, Clint Capela has seen no more than 22 minutes of game action in either game to start the season. Still, he’s taking on a Thunder squad that ranks 27th in rebounds against centers this season. Capela has nailed this line in multiple games head-to-head against the Thunder and has earned at least nine rebounds in seven of his last ten games going back to the previous year. Even in 20+ minutes, I’d expect him to get to nine or ten rebounds.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors

Ivica Zubac is currently third on the Clippers in scoring. He’s added 22.5 points per game on 63.3% from the field. The Los Angeles center has added at least 21 points in back-to-back games. The reality is that the Clippers don’t have a bunch of high-quality scoring threats. But Zubac has developed into a top center in the league. He’s facing a Warriors defense that currently ranks 22nd in defense against centers.

Meanwhile, Derrick Jones Jr. is fourth on the team in scoring. Jones Jr. came from the Mavericks and has a more significant role with the Clippers. He’s only attempted seven shots per game. But he’s shot 64.3% from the field, with three three-pointers on six attempts. If he knocks down four shots with at least one three, that’ll be enough to get to 8.5 points.

Although Buddy Hield is coming off the bench, he leads the Warriors in scoring. He’s shot 69.2% from the field and has scored 24.5 points per game. Hield is already in line to face a Clippers defense that has ranked 22nd in defense against shooting guards this season.

Hield has only played an average of 17.5 minutes per game. But if the Warriors don’t earn a massive blowout, he’ll see way more minutes. It’s more likely the Warriors won’t blow out the Clippers. With more minutes, we’ll get to see more of Buddy Hield’s explosive shooting.
