New Futures Bets for Round 2 of the Masters (2022)

Round One of the Masters is now behind us as Sungjae Im holds the lead at -5. We now look forward to Round Two as the odds have greatly shifted across the board for the winner of the tournament.

Below, I give out my two best Masters Outright Winner live bets to make now that Round One is over. I will be building upon this article at the end of each round, so there will be a running tally of all live plays at the bottom of each article.

Corey Conners (+2500)
Conners is currently tied for seventh place at -2, and I think there is a strong case to be made for him to be inside the top five after Round Two. Currently, Conners ranks first in the field in SG Around the Green, 15th in SG Approach the Green, fourth in SG Tee to Green, and fifth in Scrambling.

These are all huge indicators of success at Augusta as outlined by previous champions. Last year’s winner, Hideki Matsuyama, finished fourth in the field in SG Approach the Green, fifth in SG Around the Green, second in SG Tee to Green, and sixth in scrambling.

Those numbers are eerily similar to Conners’ current rankings, and 25/1 is too large of a price to pass up. The only reason Conners is not even higher on the leaderboard is his putting as he currently ranks 53rd in the field in SG Putting.

That putting luck should positively regress to the mean, and Conners should therefore find himself in a good spot for the weekend. It is also important to note that there is some ugly weather heading for Augusta in the late afternoon with strong winds, but Conners should be off of the course by then as he tees off at 8:55 AM Eastern Time.

Tyrrell Hatton (+5500)
I am taking a stab at this long shot as Hatton was the epitome of bad-putting luck in Round One. Hatton ranks dead-last in SG Putting after Round One but remains at even par and tied for 19th place.

Assuming his putting positively regress back to the mean at least slightly, he should rocket up the leaderboard in Round Two as he leads the entire field in both SG Tee to Green and Scrambling and ranks fifth in SG Approach the Green.

With how bad his putter was in Round One, Hatton still being inside the top 20 illustrates just how great the rest of his game was. If Hatton sneaks inside the top 10 by the end of Round Two, then we will never get a number this high on him for the rest of the tournament.

Additionally, Hatton will also beat the bad weather as his group tees off at 10:01 AM. Getting inside the clubhouse before the strong winds come in, Hatton could gain a lot of strokes on those who will have to play in much worse conditions.
