New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks Odds & Game Pick (2021)

The Seahawks head back to primetime for the second straight week as they’ll also be without All-Pro QB Russell Wilson yet again. In his place, backup Geno Smith made his first start since 2018 last week and played decently, ultimately fumbling in the final in overtime to allow the Steelers to secure the win.

Now the Seahawks must face a Saints team looking to get back on track following an inconsistent start.

Let’s take a closer look.

Overview

The post-Drew Brees era has gotten off to an up-and-down start in New Orleans, as the Saints have traded wins and losses every week as they come into this one 3-2 and are still looking for an identity. Following a blowout win in week one, the team has lost the yardage differential in every game since, most recently to the Washington Football team despite winning 33-22 last week.

In the win, QB Jameis Winston had his best performance, throwing for 279 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 4:1. Their defense, however, was unable to stop much as they were on the field for 36 minutes and struggled to get off the field on third down.

For the Seahawks, a .500 record in the absence of Wilson would be taken at this point, as the team draws Jacksonville next week’s before a bye and then dates vs. Green Bay and Arizona. The last time we saw them on the field, they lost the game and the yardage battle but established a running game behind back Alex Collins.

In place of Wilson, Smith essentially played game manager as their defense kept them in the game late into overtime.

Trends

  • Saints 8-1 ATS over L9 seasons in week 7
  • Saints 5-0 ATS in L5 October games
  • Seahawks 4-0 to under in L4 as underdog

Bottom Line

What should make Seahawks fans most optimistic heading into this week is that they nearly came away with the win last week despite heading into the half trailing 4-0. With another week of confidence under Smith’s belt, I like for the Seahawks to be competitive in this one as they head home to face a familiar foe in the Saints and a quarterback they should be able to rattle early.

Pick: Seahawks +5
