New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes: NHL Same Game Parlay (Thursday)

Following a thrilling double overtime win at Madison Square Garden in Game 2, the New York Rangers hit the road on Thursday night to take on the Carolina Hurricanes. The Rangers’ comeback was capped by Vincent Trocheck’s game-winning goal in the second overtime, getting revenge against his former team.

Pyotr Kochetkov has been confirmed in the net for the Hurricanes in Game 3. This follows Frederik Andersen allowing four goals in each of Carolina’s first two games against New York, so it’s not a huge surprise. Igor Shesterkin recorded nearly 60 saves in Game 2 to keep the Rangers contending for their sixth consecutive playoff win, keeping them undefeated ahead of Game 3. Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, and Trocheck will look to continue their offensive rampage on the road Thursday night.

We came close to hitting our +261 two-leg SGP during Vancouver’s comeback against Edmonton in Game 1 on Wednesday night, except we opted for the under instead of the over, as the Oilers’ 4-1 lead eroded in the third period, yielding a 5-4 win for the Canucks. We’re due to hit our fifth SGP in Game 3 between the Rangers and Hurricanes tonight. Follow me @Matt_MacKay_ on X for more free plays, NHL Prop Bets, and NHL best bets during the week.

Thursday's NHL SGP

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Leg 1: New York Rangers Alternate Puck Line +2.5 (-390)

Carolina should come out firing like they did in Game 2, building a 2-1 lead after the first period. This time, the Rangers might not be as lucky with getting bailed out by Shesterkin in between the pipes. The last time we saw these two teams play at PNC Arena, Kochetkov was the Hurricanes’ goaltender, which explains why the final score wound up 1-0 in favor of New York.

At +2.5, we’re insuring that if the Rangers are down by a goal late in the third period, we won’t get hooked if Carolina winds up with an empty-netter to seal their first win of this series. It’s not as juiced as you’d expect at -390, especially with the Rangers riding such a heater this postseason. This is a solid first-leg to use in our Same Game Parlay.

Leg 2: Under 6.5 Total Goals (-184)

Next, we’re heading back to the alternate total goals betting market. Once again, we’re on the under, buying up one goal at under 6.5. Oddsmakers have the total goal line set to 5.5, slightly favoring the over due to the 4-3 outcomes we’ve seen thus far.

Remember, Kochetkov is starting for Carolina. He’s allowed two or fewer goals in five consecutive starts and it’s going to be his playoff debut. Expect a much tighter, low-scoring game on Thursday night, especially with Shesterkin usurping Jeremy Swayman for best current goaltender in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We could stick to under 5.5, but it’s much safer to invest in under 6.5 at -184 odds.

Leg 3: Vincent Trocheck To Record 1+ Points (-162)

There are a lot of contributors on the Rangers’ offense but Vincent Trocheck is undoubtedly the most integral piece. Skating on the second attack line for New York, Trocheck has been dominant in the playoffs, recording at least one point in all six games. He’s carrying extra motivation against his former team, Carolina, and he also has all of the confidence and momentum following his game-winning goal in double overtime to seal Game 2.

-162 odds is pretty good value here, considering Trocheck skates alongside Artemi Panarin and has logged the most time on ice of any Rangers player in this series. There will be plenty of opportunities for him to continue recording points on Thursday night, despite the goaltender change for Carolina.

Same Game Parlay: +214

Our Same Game Parlay requires three legs to deliver a 2-1 payout after Game 3 concludes between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. We’re investing in the under, but buying up a goal, due to Shesterkin’s unconscious play in the crease, while Carolina has turned to Kochetkov to relieve Andersen for more stout goaltending.

The Rangers may end up losing Game 3 but it won’t be by more than two goals. That’s why we’re backing the Rangers’ +2.5 alternate puck line. They are undefeated in the playoffs and can overcome an early deficit like we saw in Game 2. Vincent Trocheck is the only player prop we’re targeting and he only needs to record one point, which is a feat he’s achieved in all six playoff games.
