After some early-season hype, the Detroit Lions fell back down to earth last week as they got manhandled by the Ravens. On Monday night, they'll be back in the friendly confines of their home dome at Ford Field.

They'll host a Las Vegas Raider team coming off an embarrassing loss to the Chicago Bears. QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to return in this game, and that will be a welcome sight for the Raiders.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Detroit Lions (Week 8)

Even though the Lions looked pedestrian last week, the advanced analytics still love this Detroit team. RB David Montgomery, who was so impressive the first few weeks, will be out again. However, last week, rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs began to break out, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. The Alabama product also scored his first career touchdown and hauled in nine catches for 58 yards. He'll be expected to have another big game against a Raiders’ run defense that ranks 28th in DVOA.

The Raiders’ offensive rushing attack leaves a lot to be desired, too. After a strong 2022 season, RB Josh Jacobs has fallen off, averaging only 2.9 yards per carry on the season. The Las Vegas run game ranks dead last in run offense DVOA. Detroit has played a few of the bottom teams in run offense. Tampa Bay, Green Bay and Carolina all rank 27th or lower in DVOA, and Detroit covered in those games with ease.

Garappolo is returning. This will help a pass offense that didn't do much with Aiden O'Connell or Brian Hoyer at QB. However, they go up against a vastly improved Detroit pass defense that was one of the worst in football last year. Detroit's biggest weakness this year has been going up against mobile QBs. Garappolo isn't known for his legs, and coming off of a back injury, don't expect him to run much. Overall, this is a great opportunity for Detroit to get right in front of what will be a raucous crowd on Monday night.
