Baltimore Ravens at San Francisco 49ers

It’s not very often we get a matchup this late into the season between the two best teams by a majority of the advanced stats. San Francisco, when healthy, has run through nearly every team they’ve played. During their current six game win streak, they’ve managed to win by an average margin of 18.8. 

The Ravens have been pretty impressive on their own recently. After a loss early in the season to Pittsburgh, which they had managed to dominate until some wild late plays, the Ravens have won eight of nine and have scored an average of 30.6 in those contests. A big reason for that success has been the run game. Obviously, Lamar Jackson remains a threat with his legs, but the duo of Gus Edwards and Keaton Mitchell have been dynamic as well. Mitchell suffered a season-ending injury last week, but the top-ranked DVOA rush offense should still have success on Monday night.

The 49ers are actually vulnerable to the run. They only rank 13th in DVOA rush defense. Thankfully their offense has been so good this season that teams find themselves coming from behind often and can’t afford to lean on the run game. The Ravens have a defense capable of slowing down the 49ers enough to control the pace of the game.

Obviously, San Francisco is an elite team and rightfully are the favorites in this game. However, this line has gotten out of hand. The Ravens are too good to be six-point underdogs, even on the road against this San Francisco team. I’ll be backing them to cover in this high-powered Week 16 matchup.
