Austin Hooper Under 12.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
Going on the road against a very talented Lions team that is going to look to bounce back from last week’s 38-6 loss to the Ravens is going to be a very difficult task for the Raiders. Detroit didn’t have their best stuff in that game, but I think that was more of a proclamation of Baltimore’s abilities rather than an indictment on the Lions.
Entering Week 8, Detroit ranked in the top half of the league in expected points contributed by all defense, although that metric is held up more by its rush defense rather than its pass defense. With that said, the pass defense is still good and there are additional reasons not to like Hooper in this matchup.
First of all, Vegas has rarely utilized the tight end position all season as Hooper has failed to record more than two touches in any game. Even when the Raiders look to involve that position in the offense, Josh McDaniels has drawn up more looks for rookie TE Michael Mayer, who has nine catches for 127 yards over the past three weeks.
Over that same span, Hooper has six catches for 48 yards.
Finally, before Mark Andrews last week (who is on a completely different level than Hooper), the Lions have shut down opposing tight ends in each of their previous two games.
