NFL Monday Night Football Player Props (Week 4): Lions vs. Seahawks

The second game of the NFL Week 4 Monday Night Football double-header kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET when the Detroit Lions host the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field.

Seattle has had Detroit’s number in recent head-to-head matchups, while the Seahawks are 3-0 and riding plenty of momentum with QB Geno Smith and first-year head coach Mike McDonald. Seattle is fourth in the league for points allowed (14.8) this season while averaging 24.3 points per game on offense, which is top-ten in the NFL. The Lions couldn’t beat Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home, falling 20-16 in Week 2, but they bounced back in Week 3 with a strong 20-13 road win over Arizona.

I’ve got two player props to target in this highly anticipated Monday Night Football matchup between these familiar NFC opponents after going 3-1 with MNF player props during Week 3. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly analysis.

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Jared Goff O 21.5 Pass Completions (-128)

Detroit has been reliant on a balanced offense during its first three games of 2024. The Lions have only tasked QB Jared Goff with one big outing from the pocket, when Goff recorded 34-55 pass attempts for 307 yards during Detroit’s home loss to Tampa Bay in Week 2.

Seattle’s offense is high-octane and will undoubtedly score points, most likely through the air on big explosives, forcing Goff to become more of a focal point as a passer. We’ve only see Goff clear 21.5 pass completions once against the Buccaneers, while completing 18 passes against Arizona and the Los Angeles Rams during both of their wins.

We’re banking on Seattle scoring points quickly, forcing Goff and the Lions’ offense, playing without star center Frank Ragnow, to air it out and move the football against a Seahawks defense that is allowing a league-best 3.9 yards per play.  We’re staking a unit on Goff to complete 22 passes for just the second time this season, relying on game script to hit this number.

Geno Smith O 250.5 Passing Yards (-110)

Geno Smith has looked in control of Seattle’s offense thus far, attempting 78 passes against New England and Miami since Week 2. Smith finished with 171 passing yards against a stout Denver pass defense in Week 1, but it’s been wheels up since that outing.

Detroit’s pass defense is middle of the league in terms of net pass yards per attempt (5.9) but they are stingy against the run, allowing only 3.6 yards per carry, second-lowest in the league, giving up only two rushing touchdowns. Even with Kenneth Walker III back from injury, expect Smith and the Seahawks’ offense to stay aggressive in the pass game, looking to DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba early and often.

Smith has thrown for 328 passing yards and 320 passing yards against the Lions since 2022, so don’t expect much to change based on Seattle’s formula for success on offense, while facing a stout Lions run defense on the road Monday night. Let’s stake a unit on Smith to go over 250.5 passing yards.
