NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks & Predictions

Packers vs. Broncos

The Packers came out with guns blazing in the preseason opener, as QB Jordan Love hooked up with WR Dontayvion Wicks for a 65-yard score just 1:22 into the game to set the tone. The Green Bay starters looked ready in the cameo. The Pack racked up 155 rushing yards and 220 passing yards, and that was with backup hopeful QB Sean Clifford doing most of the heavy lifting. We saw very little of RB Josh Jacobs, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team hold him out against a Denver team he knows well from his Raiders days. The Broncos were involved in a 34-30 shootout in Indianapolis, as newcomer QB Bo Nix and Zach Wilson were both impressive, while incumbent QB Jarrett Stidham tossed a pick. That is a race to watch. The Broncos rushed for 131 yards while scoring three times on the ground while limiting the Colts to just 64 rushing yards on 23 attempts. Both offenses were efficient last week, and we could see a rather high-scoring affair for a preseason game. It’s rare to see a total of 40 or more in a preseason contest, but we should get there.

Pick: OVER 40 (-110)

Saints vs. 49ers

The 49ers have been making headlines all preseason, but not because of what they’ve done on the field. As the Brandon Aiyuk saga plays out in the front office and in the media, Kyle Shanahan needs to get his roster ready for a game against the Saints on Sunday. Outside of their two touchdown drives, they struggled to move the ball on offense against the Titans in their first preseason game. Six of these drives resulted in 77 yards on 27 plays, and the final drive of the game ended with a game-ending interception. However, they might get a little break against a Saints defense that let the Cardinals rack up yards. New Orleans gave up 328 yards, 145 of which came on the ground for 4.7 yards a pop. The 49ers should have more success this week. The Saints themselves moved the ball well, too. Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler moved the ball well in the air against the Cardinals, and they should continue that against a San Francisco that allowed Mason Rudolph, Malik Willis, and Will Levis to complete nearly 67% of their pass attempts. Preseason games are typically low-scoring, but this game should be on the high-scoring side. I’ll be taking the over for this Sunday’s matchup.

Pick: OVER 38.5 (-110)
