Best NFL Super Bowl LIX First Team TD Scorers: Eagles vs. Chiefs

Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook

Philadelphia Eagles First TD Scorer: Saquon Barkley (+175)

There is a reason why Barkley has the shortest odds to score the first Eagles touchdown on Sunday. The superstar running back has been the focal point of Philadelphia's offense all year. He led the team with 15 offensive scores, ranking seventh in the NFL. Barkley scored at least one touchdown in half of his regular season games.

Furthermore, the superstar had two or more offensive scores in 37.5% of the regular season contests, including three in the Week 1 matchup. More importantly, Barkley had the first Eagles touchdown in nearly a third of his regular season games. He had the first team score in the NFC Championship Game, recording a 60-yard rushing touchdown on Philadelphia's first offensive play.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs surrendered nine rushing touchdowns to running backs during the regular season, the eighth-fewest in the league. However, Kansas City has struggled to keep running backs out of the end zone in the playoffs, giving up three touchdowns to Joe Mixon and James Cook. Furthermore, both star running backs scored their team's first touchdown in their matchups against the Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs First TD Scorer: Travis Kelce (+380)

Unfortunately, Kelce's 2024 regular season was the worst of his career. The future Hall of Famer had only three receiving touchdowns, a career-low. Furthermore, he has had limited regular-season touchdown production in back-to-back years. After totaling a career-high 12 receiving scores in 2022, Kelce has eight over the past two seasons. Yet, the star tight end has stepped up during the playoffs.

Kelce has three receiving touchdowns during last year's playoffs after totaling five during the regular season. While the veteran scored the first Chiefs touchdown only once during the regular season, he had the first team score in the Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans. More importantly, the Eagles have struggled to defend tight ends lately.

Philadelphia surrendered 11 receptions for 104 receiving yards to Zach Ertz in the NFC Championship Game. More importantly, they gave up a receiving touchdown to Tyler Higbee and Colby Parkinson in the Divisional Round matchup, including the first Los Angeles Rams score in the contest. Kelce had the first Chiefs touchdown in the Super Bowl LVII win over the Eagles. Don't be surprised if history repeats itself.
