NFL Thursday Night Football Touchdown Scorer Picks: Lions vs. Chiefs (Week 1)

Kickoff is here!

The 2023 NFL season will begin tonight, and what could be an exciting matchup will get underway. Anytime we get to see the Chiefs is appointment viewing, and right away, they are on their title defense. The Lions had an outstanding end to the season. If they can reciprocate that, then this will be a team that could end a long playoff drought.

Let’s look at some players who could find the end zone tonight.

NFL Thursday Night Football Touchdown Scorer Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

First TD Scorer

Travis Kelce (+650)

His availability is up in the air, but you should make this wager, and if he doesn't play, you'll get credited your money back. Patrick Mahomes looks for Travis Kelce more than anyone else in the red zone, as he led the league last year in red zone targets.

Anytime Scorers

Jahmyr Gibbs (+130)

This will be one of the more exciting debuts this week, as the rookie out of Alabama was taken much earlier than most expected. Lions head coach Dan Campbell has expressed that Jahmyr Gibbs will get the ball as much as possible on the ground and through the air. He even said he would create a whole new position just for him.

Skyy Moore (+200)

Not just this week, but expect a bigger year from the sophomore receiver. Mahomes has praised Skyy Moore during camp, and it feels like he's made big strides going into this season. If Kelce can't suit up, expect Moore to see a heavy target share.

Sam LaPorta (+270)

The Lions needed a tight end after trading T.J. Hockenson in the middle of last season. They went into the draft and grabbed Sam LaPorta from Iowa. In a Hawkeyes offense that was one of the worst in the country, LaPorta was the lone standout with his ability to catch passes and athleticism to gain yards. Iowa has a long history of developing exceptional players, including George Kittle, Noah Fant, and the aforementioned Hockenson.

Justyn Ross (+550)

Justyn Ross has received a ton of buzz this offseason. A history of injuries has plagued Ross going back to his days at Clemson, which forced him to miss his rookie season. When he's on the field, he's a playmaker, and his athleticism is something Mahomes could use for a big play in this game.
