NFL Week 16 Composite Power Ratings (2023)
Each week, I compile power ratings from a bevy of respected sources across the NFL handicapping community. Power ratings are designed to identify how many points a team would be favored by against an average team on a neutral field. By calculating the difference in ratings between the two teams (and adjusting for home-field advantage), you can get a ratings-implied spread to compare to the actual spread. In the second section, Iâve done that while assuming a value of 1.5 points for home-field advantage and using the composite spread from all the sources. Additionally, Iâve provided some comments on trends and numbers that stood out to me.
Week 16 NFL Composite Power Ratings
- After back-to-back wins against the Chiefs and Cowboys, the Buffalo Bills have moved up to the number two power-rated team! Unfortunately, Buffaloâs early-season struggles make it so that they arenât yet locked into a playoff spot. ESPN currently gives Buffalo a 64% chance of making the playoffs with an outside chance (32%) of winning their division with matchups against the Chargers, Patriots, and Dolphins to end the season. Fortunately, they control their own destiny so that if they win all three games they are in the playoffs.
Week 16 Matchups
- I absolutely hate that I am, once again, on the Patriots this week. Their rushing defense has been incredible this year and Denver continues to be a run-first team with Russell Wilson as a shell of himself. Iâm just not sure that Denver should be almost touchdown favorites, even against one of the worst teams in the league.
