NFL Week 2 Line Movement
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Seattle Seahawks @ Detroit Lions
Open: DET -4.5 (-110)
Current: DET -5.5 (-110)
The Detroit Lions opened the 2023 NFL season in stunning fashion, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 21-20 as 4.5-point underdogs.
As for the Seattle Seahawks, they lost to the Los Angeles Rams 30-13 as 4.5-point favorites.
DraftKings Sportsbook opened the line with Detroit as 4.5-point favorites. Since posting the line late Sunday night, this has moved in the Lionsâ favor, as they now sit as 5.5 points favorites. With this line moving a full point this early, It looks as if many pro and public bettors are drinking the Lions Kool-Aid early this season.
At the time of write-up, most books have this at 5.5, but we are starting to see other books like Pinnacle moving this line up to 6.0, meaning respected bettors and bigger bets are still coming in on Detroit.
With more missed extra points happening around the league, the number 6.0 is becoming more of a key number, so this line will be something to watch moving forward. Will more sportsbooks follow Pinnacle and offer 6.0? And if they do, will there be some buyback?
The Lions get the slight rest advantage as they are coming off a Thursday night game and have been excellent covering the spread at home, going 13-4 ATS in Detroit the past two seasons.
San Francisco 49ers @ Los Angeles Rams
Open: SF -7.0 (-110)
Current: SF -9.0 (-110)
It seemed as if the Steelers were the popular underdog in Week 1, as many respected handicappers and pro bettors were backing the home underdog. Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers had no problem reminding everyone they are not going anywhere and should be considered a true Super Bowl contender once again.
After a 23-point blowout, the oddsmakers quickly put some respect on the 49ers by making them a full touchdown favorite on the road against a divisional opponent.
Almost every book, including DraftKings, opened this line at 7.0, and by Monday morning, the line had jumped to 8.0 and even 8.5 for some books. Itâs not abnormal for more public sportsbooks like DK to receive early money on a team after a big blowout win, but to see other sharper books like Circa and Pinnacle also move this up to 8.0/8.5 and off a key number like 7.0 is very telling.
Also, During their time as NFC West rivals, Kyle Shanahan has owned Sean McVay, as his 49ers are 9-3 SU and ATS against McVayâs Rams.
