  • Opening Line: Chiefs -7.5 | O/U 52.5

Overview

In Week 4, the Raiders defeated the AFC West rival Denver Broncos, winning and covering the spread for their first victory of the year (32-23). The Raiders reached the over twice this season, but this was the first time they not just won but covered.

The Raiders’ front seven stood out, allowing just 85 yards on the ground, 29 of which came from Russell Wilson. Their own rushing attack thrived, as Josh Jacobs rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Sunday Night Football” last week, despite being 2-point underdogs (41-31). The Chiefs had not hit the Over since Week 1 and had not covered since then either.

As is typically the case in big games, Patrick Mahomes was in his bag in primetime, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the way on the ground, rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Bottom Line

Both clubs’ quarterbacks passed 1,000 passing yards in last week’s wins, as Carr sits in ninth place in the NFL with 1,038 yards, while Mahomes is sixth with 1,106. Additionally, Mahomes has 11 passing touchdowns, which ties him for the league lead with Lamar Jackson (Ravens) and Jared Goff (Lions).

In addition to already established strong quarterback play, both of these teams seemed to find their rushing attack last week, which I think carries over to this one. While I expect this game to be closer than many, I’m more interested in a total that I think is heading in the wrong direction.

With both offenses starting to click, I’m taking the over and likely waiting for the week to progress, as I think a better number appears.

Pick: Over 51.5
