NFL Week 7 Odds, Picks & Predictions: Underdog Bets (2023)

Week 6 was a wild week in the NFL, with a couple huge upsets. But ironically, most of the favorites actually covered their spreads.

As we head into our first 6-team bye week, an early look at the board for Week 7 reveals closer spreads than Week 6. The largest spread is currently +9 and the rest are all within one score. Let's take a closer look into these games and see if we can continue our underdog success in Week 7.

NFL Week 7: Top Underdog Bets

Detroit Lions (+3) vs. Baltimore Ravens

After another convincing win in Week 6, the 5-1 Detroit Lions find themselves as underdogs yet again and this may be the last time they’re underdogs in a while. They draw a tough matchup traveling to Baltimore, but this Lions team is tough and they feel like they have something to prove against the top teams in the league. They’re playing well on both sides of the ball and can compete with any team in the NFL.

However, there’s some injury concerns for this offense. David Montgomery would have been a great weapon for this game, as he can match the Ravens’ physicality on defense if it became a grind-it-out game, but reports are currently indicating he will not play. Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs is questionable as of now, but it appears he’s trending towards playing. Whoever suits up at running back for the Lions will have a big role in this game.

On the other side, the Ravens have been playing good-but-not-great football. They’ve yet to play a complete game, as they seem to be a different team in the first and second half of games. They jumped out to an 18-3 lead against an average Titans team, but then let them come back in the second half of the game even with an inexperienced backup QB taking over partway due to an injury.

I’d bet on the Lions coming into Baltimore and getting a win as Dan Campbell will have this team motivated and ready to go.

Bet: Lions +3 vs. Ravens (-115)

Washington Commanders vs. New York Giants (+2.5)

After backing the Commanders last week and getting the win, we are going against them this week in a divisional road game at the Meadowlands. This Giants team has a dreadful 1-5 record and things are looking down for them. There are no moral victories in this league, but the way they were able to go into Buffalo on primetime and nearly win the game with a depleted roster and backup QB has to make them feel better about their chances this week. With a healthy Saquon Barkley, and positive injury trends for QB Daniel Jones and a couple other Giants players, this team has to have a different outlook this week.

Coupling that with a home game against a divisional opponent they know very well, I like the Giants to bounce back in this spot. I think they’ll even have some success through the air against this Commanders secondary, as the defense will be keying in on Barkley. Young Commanders QB Sam Howell will have to perform well in a tough road environment to get this win.

Take the Giants with the points and outright and bet on them bouncing back at home this week.

Bet: Giants +2.5 vs. Commanders (-110)

Los Angeles Chargers (+5.5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs

I look forward to these Chargers versus Chiefs games every year, as they’re always a great matchup and seemingly always close. I expect more of the same this year, beginning with the first matchup between these teams in Kansas City. The Chargers (2-3) are coming off a tough loss to the Cowboys, which they really wanted to get coming off the bye week. Now, they desperately need a win this week to fall way behind in the AFC at 2-4. The Chiefs have won 5 games in a row since their Week 1 loss to the Lions, and have looked great on the defensive side of the ball over that stretch. However, they’ve had some favorable matchups against mediocre offenses in the Broncos, Jets, Bears, and Vikings. This Chargers offense will be their biggest challenge since Week 1 and I expect them to struggle a little bit more than they have during the past month of games.

The Chargers will bring everything to the table here on the offensive side of the ball as they try to get a huge win at Arrowhead. Austin Ekeler should be back to full strength this week and hopefully Joey Bosa is able to suit up at full strength as well.

Give me the Chargers to cover here in what should be a close divisional game with two strong offenses.

Bet: Chargers +5.5 vs. Chiefs (-108)
