NFL Week 9 Odds, Picks & Predictions: Underdog Bets (2023)

Week 8 was a tough week for Underdogs as we only saw a few get home. The Bengals brought home a win for us as one of our top picks last week, and we also saw the Panthers, Broncos and Titans win their games outright as Underdogs.

Week 9 brings us a new week with new upsets. We have some teams on a bye week, but there are some great matchups across the board.

Let's look at our top Week 9 Underdog bets:

Buffalo Bills @ Cincinnati Bengals

Yes, the Bengals were one of our picks last week, and they seem to be getting into a rhythm after sweeping the NFC West, getting healthier along the way. Also, this Bills team has looked sketchy at times, as they’ve been alternating wins and losses all season. But, with these teams, anything can happen, no matter how they’ve looked in recent weeks. These QBs can turn on the switch at any given moment, and I believe that’s what will happen in a high-adrenaline game like this.

The Bills played a solid game last week but allowed the Buccaneers to stay in the game and gave them a chance at the end to win. They gave up only 302 total yards of offense but had minimal sacks and zero turnovers. This Bills’ defense will need to find a way to get to Joe Burrow and force some turnovers if they want to go into Cincinnati and get a win. Burrow used his scrambling ability to escape the 49ers’ pass rush on his way to 43 yards rushing. They’ll need to contain Burrow to allow pass rushers like AJ Epenesa and Von Miller to get to the QB and make some plays.

On the other side of the ball, it’s paramount that Josh Allen takes care of the football against a good Bengals defense. We’ve seen the Bills go as he goes so far this season. In games they’ve lost, Allen tends to be careless, and it leads to interceptions and fumbles. Allen will need to take what the defense gives him on Sunday night and look for Diggs and Kincaid often, as they should have good matchups all night.

Take the Bills as Underdogs here in an evenly-matched contest in primetime.

Bet: Bills +2.0 (-108)

Los Angeles Chargers @ New York Jets

Can the Jets pull off another big win against a potential AFC Contender? I’m not so sure, but I do think they cover the spread here on Monday night. Zach Wilson will be the deciding factor once again in this game, but it does seem that he has improved as a passer throughout this season. He hasn’t been great, but no interceptions the past two weeks (he did have two fumbles) show that he’s making better decisions through the air, or the coaching staff is calling plays that put him in a better position.

Nonetheless, this defense and run game with Breece Hall is carrying this team to victories. Now 4-3, this team has more hope than they’ve had since Aaron Rodgers went down in Week 1. There’s belief that Rodgers will come back to play again this season, which adds even more hope and inspiration for this team.

The Chargers are no strangers to close games over the past few years, and I think they stumble a bit on Monday against this fearsome Jets defense. Also, they’re giving up 100+ rushing yards a game, which should work well for the Jets’ style of offense. New York can shorten this game by running the ball, and I believe their defense will keep this game close all night. Take the Jets +3.5 here at home in a close game on Monday night.

Bet: Jets +3.5 (-110)

Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles

I’m going back to the Cowboys for this monumental NFC East matchup in Philadelphia. The Cowboys have been rolling and find themselves in a position to tie the Eagles in the loss column with a road victory on Sunday. After an embarrassing loss to the 49ers last month, this Cowboys team seems to be on a mission and has been playing great on both sides of the ball. They’ll come into this game against a familiar opponent and should be confident with how they’ve been playing lately.

On the other hand, the Eagles are 7-1 but seem to be barely squeaking by teams despite huge success from A.J. Brown. Last week, they found themselves in a 14-3 hole against the Commanders, the second time they fell behind against this team in October. The Eagles’ defense hasn’t been as stout as last season, which could be the Cowboys’ advantage in this game. We know the Cowboys’ defense has been great, and they could force Jalen Hurts into some bad decisions.

Give me the Cowboys to cover, as they need to break through against this Eagles team once and for all.

Bet: Cowboys +3.0 (-112)
