NFL Week 9 Pick’em Pool Predictions

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Cleveland Browns

It took them eight games, but the Browns finally scored 20 points in last week's win over the Baltimore Ravens. A lot of their success can be attributed to quarterback Jameis Winston, who threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns, as he outdueled Lamar Jackson.

Unfortunately for the Browns, their success will be short-lived. The Ravens have the worst passing defense in the NFL, so it's no surprise Winston was solid against them. But the Chargers rank ninth in pass defense, allowing just 193.4 passing yards per contest.

The Chargers are allowing just 13 points per game, so we will likely see the Browns finish with fewer than 20 points for the eighth time this season. And while the Chargers scoring 20 points is far from a sure thing, they've scored at least 20 in their last two games. Every time they've scored 20 points this season, the Chargers have won.

Pick: Chargers

Chicago Bears vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Bears are coming off one of the most heartbreaking losses of the season, while the Cardinals are coming off a last-second road victory over the Miami Dolphins. How will both teams rebound when stepping onto the field on Sunday?

Last week, in a battle of the top two picks of the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams was thoroughly outperformed by Jayden Daniels. Williams finished just 10-of-24 for 131 yards. It was the lowest yardage total he's posted since Week 1. The good news for Williams is he'll get to take on the seventh-worst pass defense in the league this week, so he should bounce back.

But even though Williams is likely in for a big game, the Bears are still going to lose this game. The Cardinals have won three of their last four games, taking down the Dolphins, Chargers and San Francisco 49ers. While the Bears have also won three out of four, they've yet to win a road game this season. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals’ offense will do just enough against a defense that's allowing 350.3 yards over their last three games to get the win.

Pick: Cardinals

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love left last week's game early after suffering a groin injury. While he's questionable this week, he didn't suffer any significant damage. In such a massive game, he'll likely be on the field. If Love does play, the Packers are one of the few teams in the NFL that can keep up with the Lions.

The Packers are averaging 27.0 points per game, sixth-best in the NFL. What's made the team even more dangerous is that they lead the league with 2.4 takeaways per game. With this being a home game at Lambeau Field perhaps the Packers can pull off the upset.

The problem for the Packers is that everything they're good at, the Lions are good at, too. The Lions lead the league in points per game, and they're tied for second in takeaways per contest. Additionally, the Lions are averaging just 0.7 turnovers per game, while the Packers are averaging 1.5. The Lions will win the turnover battle and win a high-scoring game.

Pick: Lions

Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks

After starting 3-0, the Seahawks have lost four of their last five games, with each of those losses coming by at least nine points. They have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL, allowing an average of 148.4 rushing yards per contest. That is going to be a huge problem for them this week.

While the Rams rank just 26th in the league in rushing yards per contest, Kyren Williams has consistently taken advantage of good matchups this season. Last week, he ran for 97 yards and scored a touchdown for the seventh game in a row to start the season. In that same game, with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua back, the Rams scored 30 points against the Minnesota Vikings.

While the Seahawks will move the ball and score some points in this game, the outcome will come down to momentum. Right now, the Rams have all of it. They've won back-to-back games, and with their full arsenal of weapons, they're simply going to outscore the Seahawks in this game.

Pick: Rams
