NFL Week 9 Totals Odds, Picks & Predictions (2023)

The NFL’s trade deadline was Tuesday, and we saw contenders like Buffalo, Philadelphia, and San Francisco add pieces on the defensive side of the ball as we enter the second half of the NFL season. Some teams we thought would be sellers, like New England and Carolina, decided against making any moves and potentially stockpiling picks.

Now that the dust has settled and we know what teams are going to look like for the rest of the year, it’s time to focus on improving our record. We’ve gone 2-1 for four of the last five weeks, and are feeling really good about this week’s selections.

Let's get to the NFL Week 9 total picks.

Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles - O/U 46.5

With apologies to the Chiefs and Dolphins who are over in Germany, the marquee game of the week on U.S. soil is this longtime NFC East rivalry. Both offenses have found their stride behind star wide receivers. Dak Prescott finally started feeding CeeDee Lamb to the tune of 12 catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns in a 43-20 dismantling of the Rams last week.

Meanwhile, the defending NFC Champion Eagles have been riding the hot hand of receiver A.J. Brown, who has posted six straight games with at least 127 receiving  yards. The over has hit in five straight in this series and there’s no reason to think it won’t reach six.

The Pick: Over 46.5 (-110)

Washington Commanders @ New England Patriots - O/U 40.5

The Commanders were surprisingly one of the more active teams at the deadline, trading away their two best pass rushers for draft picks. That’s great news for Mac Jones and the Patriots, as Washington visits New England on Sunday. Jones should finally have some time to find open receivers downfield and prove some of his doubters wrong.

Sam Howell will become the eighth different quarterback to start for Washington in their last eight games against New England. The quarterback carousel may finally be over in the nation’s capital though. Howell leads the league’s seventh-best passing attack as of this week. All these signs point to more scoring in this game than you would expect, and with a relatively low number, we are looking to take advantage of this situation.

The Pick: Over 40.5 (-114)

Minnesota Vikings @ Atlanta Falcons - O/U 37.5

Minnesota’s season looks a lot different than it did a month ago. The Vikings finished 13-4 a year ago and looked like Super Bowl contenders heading into this year. But they lost one of the best receivers in football, Justin Jefferson, to a hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for a couple more weeks. Then last week, quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a torn Achilles tendon that ended his season. Now rookie quarterback Jaren Hall out of BYU will get the start.

The Falcons are also making a change at quarterback; 2022 third-round pick Desmond Ridder out of Cincinnati has been benched in favor of backup Taylor Heinicke. While Falcons head coach Arthur Smith has frustrated fantasy owners by spreading the ball around to all his offensive skill players, it also has to be frustrating to his players. Atlanta doesn’t seem to have a strategy for success on offense. These two teams have combined to go under the number in 13 of their 16 games so far this season, and Sunday should make it fourteen.

The Pick: Under 37.5 (-115)
