Saturdayâs Best NHL GIFT Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. St. Louis Blues
The Penguins' hit a rough patch and are 3-6-1 over their last ten games.
Even with Jeff Petry and Kris Letang back on the blue line, the defense has been terrible, allowing 5.25 goals over the last four games. Tristan Jarry hasn't been good since his return by allowing nine goals and a .850 save percentage in his previous two games.
The inconsistent play of the Blues' has directed them to make changes. They seem to have thrown in the towel and have offloaded some players by recently trading Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O'Reilly.
While the offense has dipped, goaltending has been a problem all season. Jordan Binnington has not met expectations as the starter, allowing 3.25 goals per game and a .894 save percentage.
The Blues have one of the worse GIFT percentages, but the Penguins have the third best, and it's hit in eight of the last ten. Expect early scoring with each team's lack of defense.
Pick OVER 0.5 (-175)
New York Rangers vs.Washington Capitals
The Rangers won six straight coming out of the All-Star break, and the offense was scoring 5.33 goals per game in that time. They're recently plummeted, putting up just four goals in the three-game losing streak.
They've had some rough defensive matchups, which could be a factor as to why they gave the puck away 17.6 times per game over their last three.
Washington is another team that has begun to dissolve its roster. They were recently involved in a blockbuster trade sending Garnet Hathaway and Dmitry Orlov to the Bruins for three picks and Craig Smith. They've lost in six consecutive games and are still dealing with injuries.
I like the Rangers to rebound, but I think the defenses will be the biggest factor for both sides, and we will not see scoring early.
Pick: UNDER 0.5 (+125)
Dallas Stars vs.Vegas Golden Knights
The Stars' lead in the Central is disappearing by losing five straight, and the Jets, Avalanche, and Wild are within reach.
Dallas isn't known for their offense, but it's been especially bad lately, scoring just eight goals in the last five games. Jason Robertson, Jamie Benn, and Joe Pavelski are the only players with more than two goals in the previous ten games, as this offense cannot move their opponentâs zone.
The Golden Knights were in an identical bad run last month, but they played tremendously now. They look similar to that early season start, with the offense playing well.
There are questions about who will be in the crease â â Logan Thompson is on the shelf, and backup Aidn Hill missed the last couple of games, but he did return to practice on Friday.
The Starsâ lack of scoring has spilled over in the GIFT prop. They missed it in five straight and seven of their last ten.
Pick: Under 0.5 (+120)
