Monday’s NHL Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Dallas Stars (-162) at Pittsburgh Penguins (+136) | O/U 6.5 (-102/-118)

The Stars are on a bit of a slide, having lost three of their last four games, with their only win coming against the Blackhawks. Their offense has a lot of talent, but it isn’t playing up to its potential. They score just 2.92 goals per game. Their best players, like Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson, have one point in their last five games. As soon as those guys get it going, their offense will surge.

Jake Oettinger got roughed up in his last start against Winnipeg’s top offense, allowing four goals.

The Penguins have not started the season well, as they are near the bottom on both sides of the ice. Their offense generates 2.82 goals per game (18th), most of which come from their top lines. The defense has been brutal; they are 30th in goals allowed (3.69). Their blue line also allows the most shots per game (32.3).

This Dallas offense needs an opponent like this to try to get it going, which could help them in the future.

Pick: Stars 60-Minute Moneyline (+100)

Carolina Hurricanes (-135) at Vegas Golden Knights (+114) | O/U 6.5 (-102/-118)

The Hurricanes are one of the hottest teams and although their seven-game streak was snapped, they have the second-most wins in the Eastern Conference. They are great in every facet of the game. Their offense scores 4.15 goals per game (fourth) and allows 2.62 (sixth). Their special teams have also been tremendous, as they are in the top eight on the power play and penalty kill.

As good as they are, going to Vegas has been challenging for every opponent, as the Golden Knights are undefeated at home (8-0-0). Good luck trying to stop this offense, as they're second in goals scored (4.36).

They have eight players with double-digit points and two with over 20 (Jack Eichel and Mark Stone). Most of these guys have more assists than goals. Their ability to spread the puck and trust several players to hit the back of the net makes them tough to match up against on every shift.

It’s surprising that Vegas would be this big of an underdog when they haven’t lost at home yet. It’s an excellent opportunity to take them to win with plus-money odds.

Pick: Golden Knights Moneyline (+114)
