Carolina Hurricanes (-162) vs. Vancouver Canucks (+132) | o/u 6.5 (-140/+112)
The Hurricanes started the season playing well but have recently slid with two consecutive losses. They've done well this year defending their zone and are allowing the fourth-fewest goals per game and expected goals against. The offense hasn't needed to be as strong early, but going against solid offensive teams like the Flames and Oilers has shown they need to be better.
The free fall continues for the Canucks as they lost their sixth-straight game on Sunday. They were beaten at home against the Sabres, who were the second-leg of a back-to-back, and they allowed them to get an early lead, and it was over quickly.
The Canucks will not go 0-82, but they will go 0-7. The Carolina goaltending has been great to start the year, and Vancouver isn't putting pressure on the offensive zone. The Canes don't need much offense to grab this win.
Pick: Hurricanes ML
Pittsburgh Penguins (+102) vs. Edmonton Oilers (+122) | o/u 7 (+118/-144)
The Penguins are having an incredible start to the season as just one of three teams that have come away with a point in every game. The offense is rolling with league-leadings 5.20 goals per game and is getting contributions throughout the lineup. Tristian Jerry is on a very early Vezina Trophy watch, allowing 2.01 goals a game with a .941 save percentage.
The Oilers' homestand to start the season has not gone the way they hoped for, and they have lost their first three of five. They're getting significant contributions from their offensive stars, including Connor McDavid, who has ten points. Goaltender Jack Campbell is struggling early, allowing 3.82 goals per game and a .882 save percentage.
Both offenses bring a ton of firepower, but the goaltending matchup sways too far, and with the Penguins' top offense, itâs tough not to take them as a road upset.
Pick: Penguins ML
St. Louis Blues (-118) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-102) | o/u 6 (-118/-104)
The Blues have begun the season playing well with three straight wins. The defense has been stellar, and Jordan Binnington is another goaltender to look out for to win some hardware.
The Jets have not gotten off to the start they were hoping for. Pierre-Luc Dubois, Cole Perfetti, and Mark Scheifele have been great on the top lines, with six goals and five assists between them, but their other lines have yet to come through.
Binnington is coming off a shutout against the Oilers, and they only allow 23 shots. Edmonton and Seattle have the lowest shooting percentage on shots on goals, and now he gets Winnipeg, which is fourth-worst.
Pick: Blues ML
