Top 3 NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (10/15)

A large slate of games and a couple of interesting ones. We’ll take advantage of some lopsided matchups, but the trends of some high-scoring games will also play in our favor.

Arizona Coyotes (+265) vs. Boston Bruins (-335) o/u 6.5 (105/115)

It was a rough season in Phoenix last year as the Coyotes finished with the fewest points in the Western Conference, and it looks like they are on their way to the same this year. The team has yet to win a game this season, falling to Penguins 6-2 in the season opener, but also didn’t win a preseason game.

Arizona looked awful against Pittsburgh and couldn’t put any offensive pressure with just 28 shots, and they could not defend the blue line as the Pens took an incredible 53 shots.

The Bruins were average on offense last season, finishing 15th in goals per game, but they got contributions on their front lines in the 5-2 road win against the Capital. Their goaltending and defense are where they shine, as they finished fourth in goals against and third in shots against.

At home, Boston will come away with an easy win.

Pick: Bruins -1.5 (-134)

Columbus Blue Jackets (+184) vs. St. Louis Blues (-225) o/u 6.5 (-115/105)

With two games under their belts, we sense the Blue Jackets will not be able to stop many teams this year.

They’ve faced Carolina and Tampa Bay this year, who both finished in the top ten in goals last season and allowed them to light the lamp nine times. Now they go on the road to St. Louis, who finished third last season with 3.77 goals per game.

Jordan Binnington is coming off the worse season of his career, with 3.13 goals allowed per game and a .901 save percentage. He was dealing with injuries throughout the season, and it even forced him to miss the remainder of the second-round loss to Colorado.

Both Columbus/St. Louis matchups last year hit nine goals, while both teams finished over the total in 55% of their games or better.

Pick: Over 6.5 (-115)

Calgary Flames (+112) vs. Edmonton Oilers (-134) o/u 7 (+120/-148)

The first installment of this year’s Battle of Alberta is one that we should be excited to see.

Although the Oilers got the 4-1 series win in the Western Conference Second Round against the Flames, each game was exciting, pressure-filled, and high scoring.

Calgary had some turnover in their lineup in the offseason. Still, they had no problem taking down the reigning champs, and all three newcomers (Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, and MacKenzie Weegar) came away with at least a point.

While the Oilers still come with offensive juggernauts, they didn’t do anything to improve the blue line, and bringing in Jack Campbell behind the net doesn’t give you a ton of confidence.

Including the postseason, the over was 7-2 between these two teams, and with how well these offenses looked in their first games, throw confidence in the higher seven total with the plus odds.

Pick: Over 7 (+120)
