Top 3 NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (12/13)

It’s a packed NHL slate tonight, with 24 teams hitting the ice. There are some intriguing matchups on the schedule with the Stars taking on the Devils, the Islanders squaring off against the Bruins, and the Golden Knights going toe-to-toe with the Jets in Winnipeg.

There are plenty of ways to bet on tonight’s 12-game lineup, but I’ve narrowed in on these three wagers below.

Top 3 NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (12/13)

Dallas Stars vs. New Jersey Devils

The headlining game of the night features the Stars facing the Devils in New Jersey. Dallas comes into this one at 16-8-5 (37 points), while New Jersey is 21-5-2 (44 points), each leading their respective divisions. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET from the Prudential Center.

I’m riding with the Devils on the moneyline tonight. There isn’t much separating these two teams from a statistical standpoint, but New Jersey has a slight edge defensively, and they have home-ice advantage tonight. The Devils come into tonight’s game ranked third overall defensively, allowing just 2.36 goals per game. The Stars are 10th in that category, giving up 2.69 tallies per game.

Furthermore, it’s expected that Dallas will turn to Scott Wedgewood to handle the netminding responsibilities tonight. Wedgewood sits are 5-4-2 with a 3.05 GAA and .908 SV% so far this season. While those are respectable numbers, it’s still a step back from Jake Oettinger and his .916 SV%. I like for the Devils to pick up two points at home tonight.

Bet: New Jersey Devils Moneyline (-155 via DraftKings)

Anaheim Ducks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The largest mismatch on tonight’s betting board sees the Ducks (+360) taking on the Maple Leafs (-450). Anaheim is fresh off a loss last night to Ottawa, where they were shut out 3-0 in Ontario. They’ll make the short trip to Toronto for tonight’s 7:00 p.m. ET showdown with the Leafs.

This game will be a massacre, and I’ll back the Leafs on the puck line in this spot. Anaheim enters tonight’s contest with the largest goal differential in the NHL at -53. The Ducks rank dead last in the league in both scoring (2.3 gpg) and in goals allowed (4.0 opposing gpg). They simply don’t have the talent to keep up on either end of the ice, which will be a major issue against a team of Toronto’s caliber. Look for the Maple Leafs to get after it early and often tonight and stretch this lead out to at least two goals.

Bet: Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (-170 via DraftKings)

Washington Capitals vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Alexander Ovechkin continues his chase for 800 goals in what’s currently the biggest story in the NHL. The star winger sits at 797 coming into tonight’s game with the Blackhawks. This one is set for 9:00 p.m. ET from the United Center in Chicago.

Similar to the Ducks, the Hawks have had issues scoring this season. That was a major concern entering the year, and this lackluster roster has come to fruition. Chicago currently ranks 30th in the league offensively (2.4 gpg), and their power play sits at 13th (23.5%). I don’t think they have the star power to keep pace with Washington tonight, so I’ll back the Caps on the puck line.

It’s confirmed that Petr Mrazek will start in net for the Hawks tonight, and he’s just 2-5-1 with 4.05 GAA and .884 SV%. The Capitals should have no issue finding the back of the net tonight, and I anticipate the Blackhawks having problems scoring on the other end. Let’s take the Capitals -1.5 here.

Bet: Washington Capitals -1.5 (+125 via DraftKings)
