Top 3 NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (11/1)

We’re bringing in the new month with a stacked 12-game slate in the NHL tonight! The action gets underway with a trio of games at 7:00 p.m. ET and wraps up out west at 10:30 p.m. with a Pacific Division clash between the Ducks and Sharks. Below I’ve listed my top three wagers on the ice tonight.

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Washington Capitals

The Golden Knights have been on an absolute tear to start the season, and they’ll try to keep things rolling as they open up a five-game road trip in the nation’s capital. They’ll take on a Caps team that’s 5-4-1 and coming off of a 3-2 shootout loss last night to the Hurricanes.

Since Washington is on the second night of a back-to-back, they’ll turn to Charlie Lindgren to handle the netminding tonight. The 28-year-old is 1-1-0 to start the year with a 3.09 GAA and .925 SV%. While those are pretty respectable numbers, I’ll always feel confident backing a team against a backup goalie – especially a team that’s as hot as Vegas.

The Golden Knights will go for their fifth straight win, and they’ve been getting it done on both ends of the ice. They’ve averaged 3.25 goals per game over the winning streak while allowing just 1.00. One of those wins was a 4-0 victory over the Ducks in which Logan Thompson recorded his second shutout of the season. He’s now 4-2-0 on the year with a 1.69 GAA and .943 SV%. All things considered, I like the Golden Knights to stay hot and get it done tonight.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Minnesota Wild

The Wild got off to a rough start this year, losing their first three games and surrendering 20 goals over that timeframe. Minnesota has bounced back, going 4-2-0 over their last six games, and they’re allowing just 2.50 goals per game over that span. The Canadiens are riding a two-game win streak with victories over the Sabres and Blues, most recently.

Tonight’s goaltending matchup should be Jake Allen vs. Marc-Andre Fleury. Allen’s 3-3-0 with a 2.85 GAA and .909 SV%, while Fleury comes into this one at 4-1-1 with a 3.69 GAA and .880 SV%. However, Fleury is 3-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA over his last three games. I think the veteran netminder is starting to find his groove, and I’ll back him tonight against a mediocre Canadiens squad. Montreal’s offense hasn’t been great this season, as they’re averaging 3.0 goals per game (24th) and scoring on just 11.11% of their power play opportunities (27th). I think Minnesota should be able to stretch out their lead at home and cover the puck line.

Bet: Minnesota Wild -1.5 (-105 via Caesars)

New York Islanders vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks have lost three straight games; however, they’ve picked up points in the last two with an overtime loss to Buffalo and a shootout loss to Minnesota on Sunday. The other loss was a 6-5 barnburner with the Oilers on Thursday in which Leon Draisaitl scored the game-winner with just 48 seconds left in the third period. I think this trend is probably indicative of how the season will go for Chicago. They’re clearly lacking in talent compared to most teams, but they’re playing sound and fundamental hockey and always playing hard. I think the Hawks will find themselves in a decent amount of games, so I’m going to take a shot with them tonight as a sizable underdog.

In Ilya Sorokin, the Hawks will be running into one of the best goaltenders in the league tonight. The Russian-born netminder is 3-3-0 with a 2.21 GAA and .933 SV%. However, Chicago is one of the top offenses in the league right now as they’re 10th in goals per game (3.4) and fifth on the man advantage (27.59%). If the Blackhawks can turn this into a high-scoring shootout, they just might be able to pull off a win. Let’s take them as an underdog tonight!

Bet: Chicago Blackhawks Moneyline (+150 via Caesars)
