NHL Playoffs Same Game Parlay Picks & Predictions: Saturday (5/13)

The Carolina Hurricanes disposed of the New Jersey Devils in just five games Thursday night, which means we’ve only got one game on the docket for Saturday night’s NHL betting card. Here’s my same-game parlay pick for Saturday’s pivotal Game 6 between the Dallas Stars and the Seattle Kraken.

Dallas Stars (-155) at Seattle Kraken (+130), Total 6

  • Leg 1: Stars -155
  • Leg 2: Under 6.5 goals
  • Leg 3: Roope Hintz anytime goalscorer
  • Odds: (+360)

The Stars have seized control of this series with two multi-goal victories in a row. Now, they’ll look to close out the upstart Kraken on the road.

But while Dallas was the deserving winner of Thursday night’s contest, the postgame metrics suggest the 5-2 final score was a bit of an embellishment. Dallas won the expected goals battle by just a 2.1-1.12 margin at 5-on-5, yet actually outscored Seattle 4-2 at even strength.

The concern is that Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer has reverted back to his regular season form. After a tremendous effort in Seattle’s first-round victory over Colorado, Grubauer has given up at least four goals in four of the first five games of this series. And his -1.54 goals saved above expected in Game 5 suggests that Grubauer might be regressing.

Looking at the series from a macro level, it isn’t surprising to see Dallas ahead in the series. They’ve dominated in the scoring chances department and have been exploiting Grubauer in a way Colorado simply couldn’t in the first round. What’s remarkable is Jake Oettinger hasn’t even been all that great in this series, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he delivered his best performance tonight.

At this point, the lines are so efficient for these games that it’s hard to find a true betting angle I love. However, the Stars are playing with a ton of momentum and are still winning in deserving fashion, even if the box scores are a bit of an embellishment in Games 4 and 5. The Kraken will certainly come out firing, but I think we’ll get Oettinger’s best effort tonight.
