NHL Playoffs Same Game Parlay Picks & Predictions: Saturday (5/6)

We’ve got another one-game slate Saturday night in the NHL playoffs, as the Vegas Golden Knights look to go up 2-0 on Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers.

Will the Knights build off their impressive Game 1 effort and take a commanding 2-0 lead? Or the Oilers bounce back with a gutsy road effort? Let’s break it down.

Saturday's Best NHL Same Game Parlay

(Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook)

Edmonton Oilers (-125) at Vegas Golden Knights (+105), O/U 6.5 (-135/+110)

  • Leg 1: Golden Knights Moneyline (+105)
  • Leg 2: Under 6.5 Total Goals (+110)
  • Leg 3: Connor McDavid Anytime Goalscorer (-125)

Game 1 was a pure shootout, with both teams combining for 10 goals. Well, the Golden Knights scored six, Leon Draisaitl had the other four.

All of Edmonton’s flaws reared their ugly heads in this contest. The Oilers got an amazing game from one of their stars, while McDavid chipped in with two assists, as did Evan Bouchard, Mattias Ekholm, and Zach Hyman. Aside from them, however, nobody else in the Oilers’ lineup registered a single point. The Oilers have the two best players in the series, but they simply need more out of their supporting cast going forward.

The Golden Knights also have a legitimate advantage on the blue line. None of Vegas’ defensemen were worse than even in the plus/minus differential, while four of Edmonton’s blue liners were -1 or worse. The Golden Knights don’t have a higher ceiling, but they have a much higher game-to-game floor than the more boom-or-bust Oilers.

Lastly, both goalies weren’t great in Game 1, but Stuart Skinner was particularly bad, allowing five goals on 33 shots and posting a -2.18 goals saved versus expected, which is pretty lousy in a one-game sample size like this.

Vegas also won the expected goals battle at 5-on-5 by a margin of 2.37-1.88. Frankly, if not for Edmonton’s lethal power play, this game probably wouldn’t have even been close.

Yet, the Oilers are the ones favored on the road despite all of this. While it feels like a trap, the value points clearly to the Golden Knights, who I simply trust more on a game-to-game basis. I’ll also go even bolder and take the under in Game 2, as I’ll expect a tighter defensive effort from the Oilers in what might be treated as a must-win game.
