Thursday’s NHL Best Same Game Parlays

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

New York Rangers at Colorado Avalanche

  • Leg 1: Nathan MacKinnon Anytime Goal Scorer (-135)
  • Leg 2: Over 6.5 Goals (-105)
  • Leg 3: Mika Zibanejad Over 0.5 Points (-135)

The Rangers were the first to lock in a playoff spot, and they look great. They have been the best team in the second half of the season, going 19-4-1 in their last 24 games with a +33 goal differential. Their defense overall is fantastic, allowing the sixth-fewest goals, and they play exceptionally well on special teams, ranking fourth on power plays and penalty kills.

The Avalanche were upset by the Canadiens to snap their nine-game losing streak. After the Avs got on board less than a minute into the game, the Habs scored two unanswered in the first, and then there were no more goals for the remaining 45:07 of the game. This is still the top offense in the league, scoring 3.72 goals per game, and they have one of the best first lines in the league.

These are two of the best teams in their respective conferences, so we could be seeing a Stanley Cup Final preview. Don’t expect Colorado to put up another dud, especially at home. This will be a great game to watch.

Parlay Odds: +492

Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs

  • Leg 1: Over 6.5 Goals  (-105)
  • Leg 2: John Carlson Over 0.5 Points (-135)
  • Leg 3: William Nylander Over 3.5 Shots On Goal (-130)

The Capitals are playing well at the right time, going 6-1-0 in their last seven. While they have a Wild Card spot, they are just a point behind Philadelphia for third in the Metro Division. Much of that credit goes to their offense, which is finally showing some life after being near the bottom in production all season. Their defense, however, has not been as good, and it showed after allowing seven goals in their last matchup against Toronto.

Toronto can’t just cruise into the playoffs, because the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning is only two points behind them for third in the Atlantic. The offense continues to be top-notch, ranked seventh in expected goal share, but the defense has been a big reason for some recent losses. Overall, their blue line continues to fail them by allowing the sixth-most high-danger shots.

The Caps aren’t far behind, allowing the tenth-most. Both offenses are playing well, and both defenses are not, so it could be a close game, with both offenses keeping each other in it.

Parlay Odds: +501

Los Angeles Kings at Edmonton Oilers

  • Leg 1: Kings Moneyline (+130)
  • Leg 2: Over 6 Total Goals (-118)
  • Leg 3: Adrian Kempe Over 0.5 Points (-145)

This is an important matchup because these teams are very close in the Pacific Standings. The Kings have been offensively inconsistent at times, but they have looked great by scoring 19 goals in their last four games. When the offense is clicking, this makes them one of the best two-way teams in the league because the defense is always physical, and the blue line does not allow good looks at the net.

The same could be said about the Oilers. When they’re on, they can score better than anyone, and their defense has been so much better this year. However, they’re also a team that can slide; they’ve stumbled by going 5-3-2 and they have taken some bad losses, including to non-playoff teams Columbus, Buffalo, and Ottawa.

These two know each other so well from meeting throughout the regular season and in the playoffs the last two years. They play each other tough, but right now, it’s better to trust the Kings, who have beaten quality opponents, while we’ve seen Edmonton take a bad loss recently.
