Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals

It's been an awful year for the Flyers, who have lost seven of their last eight. They are 25th in goals scored per game (2.79) as the offense struggles to establish the puck possession advantage and get quality shot attempts. Their Corsi and Fenwick rates have fallen below 50%.

The goaltending isn’t much help - allowing the fifth-most goals per game (3.35) and -26 goals saved above expected. What shows how bad this goaltending unit is is that they have a solid blueline ranked 11th in shots allowed per game (26.5), but their efforts become worthless when the goaltending is allowing a .886 save percentage (32nd).

The race for the Presidents’ Trophy could come down to the final days. The Capitals are tied with the Jets (98 points apiece) for who will get the home-ice advantage if these two meet in the Stanley Cup Finals. The good news is they are 12 points ahead in the Eastern Conference, so they should have that ice advantage throughout the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, at least.

While this team is focused on winning a championship, they are also thinking about Alex Ovechkin. He is on the brink of becoming the greatest scorer of all time as he is seven goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky for the most all time.

Against a struggling Flyers team, Washington should cover on the puck line.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Dallas Stars

Tampa Bay has had its ups and downs throughout the season. They are playing well at the right time as the regular season comes to a close - 12-3-1 in their last 16 games. They have the most points in that span (25). It's because they are great from both sides of the ice. The offense is fourth, scoring 3.69 goals per game. The goaltending is third, allowing 2.19 goals per game.

This team has extensive playoff experience. If it can keep this momentum going, it could make a long postseason run.

The Stars made a big splash during the trade deadline. They already have an offense that was fourth in goals scored per game (3.39), but they got even better by trading for Mikko Rantanen, who is coming off back-to-back 100-point seasons. He's been impactful, with two goals and two assists in five games with Dallas.

Their defense is also one of the best in the league. They rank seventh in goals against above expected (-19.14) because of their blueline and Jake Oettinger, who is having another incredible season, allowing only 2.55 goals per game.

This could be a fun game to watch with two excellent teams, but Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy has been great recently. He can keep this Stars offense quiet.
