NHL Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Tuesday (4/16)
To wrap up one of the most entertaining seasons in NHL history, fans are being treated to a four-team race for the final Wild Card seed in the Eastern Conference with only one regular season game remaining. The Washington Capitals control their destiny the most, while Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Philadelphia all need to win and receive additional help to clinch.
Last week, we totally whiffed on Detroit vs. Washington. Despite recording nearly double the number of shots on goal compared to the Capitals, the Red Wings fell at home 2-1 against Washington. As a result, the +179 SGP never stood a chance, since we had Detroit moneyline parlayed with over 5.5 total goals.
Now, with the stakes higher than ever, weâre heading back to a playoff-clinching game between Washington and Philadelphia on Tuesday night to construct a three-leg Same Game Parlay at plus odds. Make sure to follow me @Matt_MacKay_ on X to get more free plays, NHL Prop Bets, and NHL best bets.

Washington Capitals Moneyline (+125)
Washington finds itself in a win-and-in scenario on the road against a Philadelphia Flyers team that remains mathematically alive to advance into the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Flyers, despite losing eight of their last ten games played, have rattled off back-to-back wins against the Rangers and Devils with a plus-four goal differential in those contests. Now, they get home ice advantage at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night for a last-ditch effort, trying to at least play the role of spoiler.
The Capitals are on a two-game winning streak of their own, beating Tampa Bay and Boston by two goals each. These are more impressive wins and with Alex Ovechkin continuing to churn out goals, getting Washington at plus odds feels like a steal. Both of these teams are streaky when it comes to closing out games, however, I like the Capitalsâ depth and physicality more than what weâve seen from Philadelphia down the stretch.
Alternate Total Goals Over 4.5 (-350)
The total goals line is set to 5.5 in this matchup, with -120 odds favoring the over. Samuel Ersson has been solid in the crease for the Flyers during their wins, holding opponents to one total goal. Conversely, the Capitalsâ goaltending expects Darcy Kuemper in the net on Tuesday night, earning his first start in five games.
Kuemper has been lackluster in 2024, sporting a 3.31 GAA with a 13-14-1 record in the net. Ersson has been rock solid but heâs only two games removed from surrendering 11 total goals against Columbus and Montreal. Five total goals is a safe way to play this line, as we could get hooked by taking over 5.5 total goals in this matchup between two of the streakiest goaltenders in the league.
1st Period Puck Line: Washington Capitals +0.5 (-215)
Finally, weâre tapping into the first period betting market and using the first period puck line favoring Washington at +0.5 at -215 odds. This means the Capitals can wind up tied by the end of the first period or winning, which theyâve done in four of their past five games played. Philadelphia hasnât won the first period in four consecutive games, so this is a great way to boost our odds over +200 to wrap up our Same Game Parlay wager.
Same Game Parlay: +244
In summary, weâre starting with Washington to cover the first period puck line at +0.5 at -215 odds, followed by over 4.5 total goals at -350 odds. This means weâll need at least five total goals scored by the end of this play-in game. Finally, Washingtonâs moneyline is available at plus odds, sitting at +125, which is too good to pass up. Itâll be a sweat, undoubtedly, as Ersson has been good in the crease, however, the Capitalsâ wins over Boston and Tampa Bay are a bit more persuasive than the Flyers, who just shutout an underachieving New Jersey Devils team that had no motivation to compete for a playoff seed.
Letâs enjoy this playoff game atmosphere between two Eastern Conference opponents by staking a unit on this +244 Same Game Parlay at FanDuel Sportsbook ahead of Tuesdayâs 7 p.m. ET puck drop from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
