PGA Betting Picks: Best Prop Bets for The Waste Management Open (2022)

As has become tradition, the Waste Management Open is scheduled to go off this week in parallel with the Super Bowl festivities, typically finishing up just hours before the Big Game. In an event that’s almost always won by a familiar face, let’s take a look at how things stand as of now and where the value in the prop market remains.

Top-10 Finish

Jon Rahm (-140 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Finishing T5 here as an amateur in 2015 (on a day I was in attendance), the Arizona State University alumn has been right there at the end every time since. Finishing T16 or higher in his five starts since Rahm comes into this year’s edition as the #1 ranked golfer in the world and for very good reason.

In his three starts so far this year, Rahm has a solo #2, a T14, and a T3 the last time we saw him play, at the Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago. Looking back over his last 11 starts on Tour dating back to last season, Rahm has a staggering nine top 10s and is playing as well as anyone on the planet over the past six months.

While the outright number has gotten too small, I like for Rahm to be very much in contention come the weekend in Scottsdale.

Hideki Matsuyama (+140 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Rarely do I feel great about a top 10 bet in golf, given how many ways things could go wrong, but I do love this one. In his seven laps around TPC Scottsdale, Matsuyama has finished higher than 20 just once and has four top-five finishes (two wins).

He’s also playing incredible to start the 2021-22 season, with two outright victories in seven starts and finishes of T30 or higher in five. While the field this year as is elite as it’s been in recent memory and a third win here will be difficult, I like for the Matsuyama to stay hot and find himself in contention come late Sunday afternoon in Scottsdale.
