PGA Championship 2022: Tiger Woods Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction
This week, the second major of 2022 gets underway in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Southern Hills Country Club hosts the 104th annual PGA Championship.
Temperatures have been steamy in Tulsa, but the tournament forecast looks agreeable. Weather.com predicts a high of 89 degrees for Thursday, but temperatures are expected to top out at 82 degrees over the following three days. Other than a chance of scattered thunderstorms on Sunday, the weather is expected to be dry, making for firm, fast conditions. It will be breezy for the tournament, especially on Thursday and Friday, so we could see high scores.
Southern Hills has hosted three U.S. Opens and four PGA Championships. The most recent major to be played here was the 2007 PGA Championship. Tiger Woods finished -8 to beat Woody Austin by two shots in that event.
The course will play as a par 70 at 7,546. Three of the par-3s measure over 200 yards, with the longest topping out at 251 yards. The two par-5s play at 656 and 632 yards. Four of the par-4s are 489 yards or longer. This course is a brute.
Defending PGA champ Phil Mickelson, who topped the field at Kiawah Island last year to become the oldest player to win a major, won't be playing this week. But it's still a star-studded field, and Woods expects to play after returning to the Masters last month following a car crash in February 2021.
For those interested in betting on the tournament, we have some thoughts on the outlooks for the top players.

Tiger Woods Course History
Tiger Woods is the lone note-worthy player to have any sort of experience on this course, when he won the PGA Championship in 2007, with an 8-under outing to win by two strokes over Woody Austin. The course has been completely uprooted and changed since then, but there certainly should still be a familiarity with the area, and a sense of confidence to go along with it.
Tiger Woods Recent Form
While Tiger is not the golfer that he once was, he came back from a very serious injury to not only make the cut, but finish 47th after a year-and-a-half layoff, to which he had actually been starting to consistently make cuts again. In his last eight outings, albeit seven were in 2020, he made the cut in seven of the eight, and this includes four major tournaments. While it is not realistic for the oft-injured 46-year-old to just pick up where he left off, he picked the right sport to have an extremely long career where he can shape his game where his body changes. A lesser golfer would have been sidelined for life from one of the things that Tiger has been through, but his determination, skill and commitment to being the best to ever play has led him to playing at a still very high level.
Tiger Woods Masters Predictions
The Pick: Tiger Woods to Make the Cut -118 via FanDuel
I think that he has it in him to hang with this field at his old stomping grounds. While to some it still may feel crazy that what was once a sure Top Ten golfer every time out is considered a fringe cut golfer, don't let it deter you. He looked really good in the Masters, and it really looked like he ran out of gas, exhibited by scores of 71 and 74 in the first two rounds, followed by 78 in each of the last two rounds. I think Top 40 is possible, but there is much smarter money on the board than to go with Tiger to do anything more than make the cut. It is incredible that he is even able to do this right now.
